My friend said, “I don’t see why there shouldn’t be books in Heaven. But
you will find that your library in Heaven contains only some of the
books you had on earth.”
“Which?” I asked. “The ones you gave away or
lent.” “I hope the lent ones won’t still have all the borrowers’ dirty
thumb marks,” said I.
“Oh yes they will,” said he. “But just as the
wounds of the martyrs will have turned into beauties, so you will find
that the thumb-marks have turned into beautiful illuminated capitals or
exquisite marginal woodcuts.”

This makes me smile...I have never even imagined books in Heaven...no, not even once. How odd. I've imagined food, and rivers, and trees, flowers, lions, lambs, hang-gliding the universe, but never books. This can't be good. I like the way Lewis's friend thinks.
C.S. Lewis is my favorite author, and wow, as always, I adore his words and thoughts. Imagine that library in heaven with only books you gave away. Wonderful. My library there would have a pretty big stash since I love to scatter books hither and thither to good homes.
Books and garlic and it goes without saying... coffee. Angela
So that's where all the books we loaned went to! :)
