The Daniel Prayer by Anne Graham Lotz, a review

The subtitle of this book is: Prayer That Moves Heaven and Changes Nations.  Now that certainly peeked my interest!  I was interested in reading this book for a few reasons.

  • First, I highly respect Anne Graham Lotz.
  • Second, I already know she can write on deep theological subjects in a manner that is easy to read.
  • Third (and most importantly), my prayer life needs a boost.

I must say, I think this is her best book to date.  I've been a Christian a very long time and this book helped me see insights into both Daniel (as a person) and into prayer that is effective.  In this book, Anne shares with us what God has taught her these last few years about praying when we are desperate.  Whether for ourselves, our family, our friends, or our country.

This is the book Anne Graham Lotz was writing when she became the full time caregiver for her husband and subsequently when he suddenly passed away.  She shares from the heart a faith made strong through many trials and a deep burden for this country.  This is not a fluffy book on sending up little prayers to God, it offers the meat of the Word about the subject.

The four sections include:
Preparing for Prayer (Committed to Pray, Compelled to Pray, Centered in Prayer)
Pleading in Prayer (Pleading with Confidence, Pleading with Confession, Pleading with Clarity)
Prevailing in Prayer (Answered Immediately, Answered Ultimately, Answered Specifically)
Patterns for Prayer (A Prayer That is Centered, A Prayer That is Compelled, A Prayer That is Confident, A Prayer That is Contrite, A Prayer That Is Clear, A Prayer For the Battle)

The Daniel Prayer was sitting on our coffee table while I was reading it and one evening after I had gone to bed, I found out my husband picked it up out of curiosity and stayed up far after midnight reading it. He only put it down when he could no longer stay awake.  Who would expect that from a book on prayer?  It is that well written.

I highly recommend this book!

This book was provided by the publisher for the sake of review but the opinions are my own.

That sounds good! I could use a boost in my prayer life, too.
