Living the Pantry Lifestyle - Ramblings

I come to a Saturday morning with nothing in particular to write about!  When did that happen last?  Ummm... a very long time.

I think my brain is still a little groggy from too much turkey and stuffing.

If you celebrate the American Thanksgiving holiday, I hope yours was good.  I baked the turkey, made the gravy and the stuffing dressing and the cranberry relish.  Then put all of them in a basket and a box and transported them to Mr. & Mrs. Christopher's house where we celebrated the Feast with the kids and Mrs. C.'s lovely family.

And Mr. Sebastian who (whom?), you may remember, lived with us for a month or more before the closing on their house.  Miss Victoria was not amused.  But I digress.

So it is time for the official Christmas baking season to begin.  I have already updated my can of baking powder.  I was a little panicked when my grocery store didn't have my favorite non-aluminum baking powder (Rumford) and I really didn't want to go to another store at the time.  I think it was a God Thing that checking the health food aisle came to my mind and... wallah!... there it was.  :)

I don't do nearly as much baking as I once did.  There is a reason both my daughter and I own Professional size Kitchen-Aid mixers.  I moved mine from the kitchen counter to another table a year or so ago to clear up prime kitchen counter real estate.  But for a couple of weeks in December, it will be moved back into its' rightful Queenly place.

I give food gifts to everyone except my children and grandchildren.  Although I will send some home with Mr. & Mrs. Christopher.  Both work long hours so there is no time to do a lot of baking.

Stephanie, on the other hand,... well that would be like giving Martha Stewart homemade baked goods.  My daughter far outpaces me in making her baked goods tasty and gorgeous.  I bake.  She creates... Art.  The above photo shows some of the cupcakes she made for her brother's wedding reception.

But I digress... as usual.  Again.

Almost everyone else would love to receive a home baked or home made gift of something good from the kitchen.  I'll share here next Saturday some of what I'm working on.  I was going to this Saturday but then I ate too much at Thanksgiving and I am not used to feasting and I am still paying for it.

So there.  That is my excuse and I am sticking with it.  ;)

Oh she made those cupcakes? So beautifully done! She could start a bakery or a catering business.

I think that there are a lot of us who overdid it. That said, I'm making a turkey and stuffing casserole for supper. There's a reason I only make one turkey a year...the memory of every meal for four days being turkey has only begun to fade from one Thanksgiving to the next.

Glad the holiday season was good to you and yours and baked goods sounds like a wonderful gift.

I wish we had Thanksgiving here in Australia as it is so good to give thanks and be appreciative. I also love the cupcakes. So very pretty.

I bake sporadically....for instance, was given a bunch of unripe pears. I was told about a pear bread and decided to give it a try. It turned out very well! I baked one large loaf and 2 smalls which were given away as gifts.

Now am going to try an apple cake that is said to be equally good made with pears...

Your daughter's cupcakes are VERY beautiful & I'm sure their taste matched their appearance!

My KitchenAide is on the fritz. It's not good timing at all!

We give a lot of baked goods as gifts, too.

I love this time of year!
