My World this Week

Even the weeds are pretty this time of year.  ;)
Can you believe we are now in meteorological summer?  I picked up a paper yesterday where I had written some items on the first day of the year and realized five months have passed!  Tempus is definitely fugiting...

I continue to be weaker than usual but so far I can still do a little at a time.  My daughter-in-law came over for dinner last night and brought the DVD of Frozen with her.  It was a delightful movie!

She and Mr. Christopher are in the process of buying a house in the subdivision where the country road by us nears the highway.  They would be living only a couple of miles from us.  Which is okay because we are not the type of in-laws who show up unannounced.  ;)

Soooo... here is what happened in my world this week through the lens of a camera.  :)

Reading
I wrote an e-mail to my daughter, asking her to check a couple books on Amazon and decide which she thought she would like best.  I couldn't choose between the two and had credit for only one.

Well, I'm glad that her choice was Handmade Gatherings: Recipes & Crafts for Seasonal Celebrations & Potluck Parties.  I enjoy Ashley's blog and I have one of her other books... so I shouldn't be surprised I'd find this one delightful to read, to look at, and full of great recipes (and this one has some crafts!).

Handmade Gatherings is unique in focusing on potluck style parties and get togethers.   I haven't tried any of the recipes but just reading it on the deck in pleasant weather with a cup of tea at my side has been enjoyable.  I will try a few of the recipes before putting it in the pretty bag where I keep "stuff for Stephanie".  You can find more information... here.*

Watching
Hubby and I watched the premier of this movie on the UP Channel and both of us thought it a wonderful family friendly movie.  It is scheduled to be reshown this Friday night on UP (which used to be GMC or the Gospel Music Channel on cable and satellite TV).

The Kindle version of the book the movie is based on has been available for only $1.99 (as a tie-in to the premier) so I downloaded it after enjoying the film.  It adds so much depth and background that the book is quite enjoyable, even if I do know the ending!

You can check to see if the Kindle version of Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio is still reduced... here.*  I highly recommend it.  It is not the usual Amish book but it is faith based, published by Guideposts.  Perfect summer reading!

Gardening
I still find it hard to believe all that apple mint started in one tiny corner of the raised bed.  But I planted it so I know it is true.

Decorating by Tweaking
I have been continuing to tweak this area of my kitchen counters after moving the huge Professional Kitchen Aid stand mixer to another part of the kitchen.

It still didn't look quite right until I remembered the wooden bowl with the flat surface that once belonged to my mother-in-law.  Wallah!  A perfect use of kitchen counter real estate and everything else fit in nicely around it.  :)

The "go to" bottle of canola oil is still next to the stove but everything else is grouped in the wooden bowl including olive oil, a bottle of GMO free canola oil for salads, and various vinegars.

That little salt shaker next to the wooden duo is my husband's.  He says the wooden salt shaker is too slow.  Can we say "Type A" personality?

Surprise!
This is what I found when walking into the family room soon after Memorial Day.  Apparently the flag was still wet from the rain and Hubby came up with a dandy way to dry it.

Her Fluffiness
This kitty makes a bed wherever she finds one.  In this instance... on a stack of work waiting to be perused on my desk.

Hope you feel better each day!
We enjoyed Frozen too. That will be exciting having your son and daughter in law living close by.
Will check out the book. One of your posts of your favorite books got me hooked on Jan Karon...love Father Tim and the Mitford series. I checked out the cookbook from the library, and I'm going to try to make the famous marmalade cake soon. :D
Hope you have a good week!

My decorating usually comes of not being able to stand something another minute. That I've stood it for years prior has no bearing. I like the wooden bowl you are using to corral everything. Nice and tidy that way.

That's wonderful that Christopher and his wife will not be too far away. My kids live a mile away and I never show up unannounced either. Good policy that.

Take it easy while you are adjusting.

Hi Brenda;
I love your blog, it is my alltime favorite! You are a friend, tho we have never met. I love Sugarcreek, it is an hour drive south of us, and we go there as often as we can. There are charming bed and breakfasts there, wonderful restaurants and of course the Amish, cooking, crafts, furniture and quilts I will definitely get the book. Your garden is lovely, and I enjoy Miss Victoria. Glad Mr and Mrs Christopher are moving closer! Love and Hugs, Nana

Cats! Remington just had to "help" me cut out a pattern for a lightweight bathrobe. Sigh. And then became enamored with the pearl pin heads and started swatting at them to remove them ... and nearly did. And on the other end? Buck The Dog is holding down the other end of the material. Waay to many supervisors!

I just love to tweak things around the house. It makes me happy. I know the men don't generally notice such things, but they do appreciate a wonderfully warm and cozy nest to come home to!

I love to decorate by rearranging what I have! I call it 'shopping the house!'

Keep taking it easy - it's summer - enjoy the slow and easy pace.

I saw that movie cover, either netflix or amazon? Not sure but I'll check it out now with your recommendation.

Her fluffiness is too cute.

Did your hubby have the fan turned on? Mine sometimes dries clothes that way! Yikes!
