My official Valentine's Day "dinner out" was actually "breakfast out" at Cracker Barrel last week... when we had an appointment in that part of town. I love Cracker Barrel and both Hubby and I are at a point in life where we prefer breakfast dates.
We enjoyed our early Valentine's Day dinner at Mr. & Mrs. Christopher's last night. There was a lot of laughter... it is such a nice thing when your adult children are also friends.
At the last minute, Christopher called to ask his dad to bring his furniture fixing tools and wood glue. One of their dining chairs had a broken stretcher bar so it was glued and clamped after dinner.
It does come in handy having a family member with a degree in furniture engineering, although I believe his fixing skills came about from summer jobs. ;)
While I was looking forward to dinner, I couldn't wait to see the much discussed new chair! Their new living room furniture is the latest retro look (I hear was inspired by the TV show Mad Men, which I have never seen). They agreed on the style at the showroom right away but the upholstery decision came with
I should have taken a picture of the sofa, the color of green is definitely more toward the 1970s and another side chair matches it. However, my daughter-in-law fell in love with this pattern they purchased for the chair-and-a-half and I think it is really cute... very youthful while being a classic style.
As I advised my son (he asked for my opinion) when they were considering it, buy a solid sofa but it is okay to have fun with a chair. It doesn't cost all that much to reupholster a chair when one wants a change a few years down the road.
My husband looked at it and then looked at Christopher and said, "You let her buy that?". Like father... like son... no bright colors or interesting patterns anywhere if it was all their decision.
Anyway, their new place is charming and they have the main living areas unpacked. It's difficult for me to believe their one year anniversary will be in just a few months. It seems just yesterday we were all busy with wedding plans. :)
May your day be filled with love and chocolate!

Blessings and love be yours today, Brenda.
And what a lovely thing you did for your daughter-in-law, helping your son to walk the way of love. Who knows how often his kindness, in allowing her to choose the chair fabric, will be a reminder of his valentine's love for her - and it is fresh and youthful.
Oh I can see why she loves that chair! I hope that it grows on Christopher, too. It's a great punch of color and unexpected pattern that livens up a room. I think it's great!
So cute! Happy Valentine's Day!
While a whole couch in that pattern would be too much, I love that chair. It's so cute and cheerful.
Happy Valentine's Day,Brenda!
I just wanted to also say that at 39 &35 yrs old, hubby and I both prefer to do breakfast out than dinner. So I don't think it's an age thing really,LoL.
Hope you have a great day today. In Ky it is 60 and sunny but Sat is only 35 so I am enjoying this while I can.

I love the chair! Yes, it is a wonderful thing when you can enjoy your adult children as friends! I also feel that way with my 11 year old Grandaughter, we have so much fun together!
I really like the chair. We would have had much compromise at my home too. :)

What a Fun chair! I love polka dots, so I can see why she liked it! My husband would have Never let me buy such a chair, so good for you for advising your son to let her get it! It is such a blessing when your grown children are also your friends. Wish we had Cracker Barrel out here in the Pacific Northwest! They have Great food, especially breakfast! Lucky you!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Love & Blessings,

Happy Valentine's Day to you!!!! I'm glad you got to have dinner with Mr. & Mrs. C!! What fun! And that tea party of Mrs. C's sounded wonderful! It's been a full day here!

A charming chair. I almost thought it was a love seat (would have been appropriate) but it's a wonderful size for curling up with a good book. I am so happy for all of you, being happy together.
I love that chair!! :) I am,really more into florals than geometrics but this chair is lovely! So many colors to play off of too when you might want to change things up and make new throw pillows too! Yes one zingy fun thing like that to a room really livens it up and makes a statement. REally?...?? It's almost been a year that they have been married??? .. ?? Wow!! Time does fly!! Sarah
I love that Chair. Your dil has good taste. I'd love fabric like that- I need to make throw pillows. Linda
Isn't that how all men are?? I finally gave up many years ago in my 41+ year marriage and confine my artistic needs to making things, most of which are given away actually. Plain is the name of the game as to house decor. And actually it does not matter in the long run...but I do enjoy seeing what other people are "allowed" to do to their "nests". An online Rabbi we like to listen to said that smart men allow their wives to decorate the home however they like!! Smart Rabbi I think!!
