The household chore I dislike the most

It is on days like this that I am glad you cannot see my house.  There are days I'd love to show you around when it is all cute and cozy.  But today is not one of them.

I have a list of things I want to get done this week while hubby is working outside and not in the home "office".  Working on the second Recommendations List on the desktop computer is one of them.  The other... my least favorite household chore... is going through my "to be filed away" stuff and... filing them away.

Quite awhile ago (perhaps during the really cold months), I sorted through my papers, magazine articles, print outs, recipes I want to try, etc. and got rid of all those I decided not to keep while placing those to be filed (later) in two containers.

Part of the late morning and early afternoon today was spent sorting those containers.  Now it is time to file.  Which I should be doing instead of blogging about it but procrastination is part of the process.  I still have a file drawer (all mine) as part of our big file cabinet in the office.  That's where my permanent files are located which I go through about once every two years to update.

I used to have a lot more files then I do now but I went through them a few years ago and realized I didn't need half the stuff (some with dates back to the 1970s).  Not that I got rid of the really, really good old stuff.  I realized I didn't need preschool educational files when my youngest was in college... except for the articles written by Mr. Rogers.  I loved Mr. Rogers.

I also have a portable file container, the one Christopher used when he was part of the homeschool debate team.  Which is why it is black and not pretty.  However, it does have pretty file folders inside where I keep articles to read soon, recipes to try soon, the printout of the Recommendations List post, etc.  It also contains the pocket folders which hold my magazine cutouts for the scrapbook journal.

I'd take a picture but then my level of procastination would throw me into finishing tomorrow.  No one wants to be tripping over papers on the carpeting.

So, it is time to stack and file stuff that is spread out all over my family room floor.  I dislike the sorting process and I'm not too fond of the filing.  But I love being able to put my hands on an article or a recipe when needed.  Which is also why this chore floated to the top of the "To Do" list... I couldn't find a recipe I knew I had cut out.  I found it.  Now to file...  :)

I have a blogging buddy who loves to shred. I don't. And I don't love to file. Hence, like you, I have a stack of papers here and another there and another somewhere else. I usually can find what I need, but it's a case of knowing where it is in what pile. I need to do better. Let us know how this goes...perhaps I'll get inspired.

It took me ALL SUMMER to get through my filing pile. UGH! I'm determined not to let it get that big (financial stuff is always filed timely though).

guess what?! I finally got the Autumn Victoria today!! YAY!! It's so beautiful. Can't wait to read it more. I bet Stephanie loved it!!

I am sitting in the living room in my chair with my laptop on my lap because my desk in the office/sewing room is so piled with stuff that I can't even sit there! It's time for me to get to the filing, shredding, or just plain throwing away. We have a small place, so I do have to limit my piles of stuff, but it seems to have gotten away from me! You are giving me a bit of inspiration. Thanks!

Blessings,
Marge

Glad I'm not the only one who fights a continual paper 'war'...... and it's not the bills and essentials...that gets filed right away. It's the links and recipes and myriad of great ideas I find on line and in magazines.....

Ah well....... tis life in the 21st century.

Too funny, Brenda. I am sitting here looking at the stack of papers I need to file today after throwing out what I decided not to keep last night.......I had a table beside the computer stacked with printouts most of which I had not needed to print out in the first place. I;m better than I used to be, but not good enough.........But when I'm finished I'll feel so happy. Then I can move over to the quilt side of this room and work on fabric organization.

I hope you can find a way to make that sorting fun. Not sure what that would be....but I hope you find it. :)
