Good to be home!

Okay, I've given the weekend to the Mommy Wars and that's about, oh... forty-eight more hours than I prefer. Having been in the midst of them since 1977 (when the Universal Treasure was born), I prefer now to not take part.

All you have to do is read what is being written in Blog Land and you will know there is major disagreement going on between people we all admire and it will continue. Women who otherwise agree on most basic tenants of life and faith and other important issues... often take different sides on the Mommy Wars. As for me, I'm going back to books and tea and making things pretty. The older I get, the more the choleric side of me is disappearing and the sanguine side is making herself known.

Never worry about leaving a comment that disagrees with what I have written. I've been known to argue with myself. I mean, really... I'm a former Presbyterian who is currently attending a nondenominational (very quiet) Charismatic church. Talk about bipolar theology! I thought it amusing that The Pioneer Woman used to attend a nondenominational Charismatic church and now attends a small Presbyterian church. (Don't you just love reading her blog?)

My daughter tells me there are only a few of us who fit this ecclesiastical label... myself, my kids (who, of course, cut their theological teeth listening to their mother), and her college pastor (whom we all still love and admire... and his wife!). He was an Assembly of God pastor who taught his college group from R. C. Sproul and John Piper.

Both my hubby and I were called yesterday, asking if we would work this next week. He accepted. I declined... just how crazy do you think I am? Hmmm... I hope a certain family in New England doesn't answer that. I did make Sheila's Cake yesterday for the guys to take in today. I should have taken a picture of how I plated it to take to the bookstore. When I'm serving a bundt cake in a situation they won't have plates or forks, I slice it and place the slices on a serving platter. I then cut each slice in the middle from top to bottom and drizzle melted vanilla (white chocolate) coating over the slices with a fork. It looks pretty and adds a touch of flavor and texture.

I pasted a few autumnal pictures in my scrapbook journal this morning, getting ready for list making and planning later today. Sigh, the house looks like it has had no attention in two weeks... lots to do and miles to go before I sleep.

I just may try this recipe today. :)

I think I am going to have to bake a peach pie today! I have a large basket of peaches and was wondering what to do with them. I will make my mother's wonderful flakey (an e? no e?) crust which uses butter, milk and flour as the only ingredients and is never tough. You are many different kinds of inspiration, Brenda!

So glad that you're not going in to work this next week! Another week added to the prior two? Not good.

I do love to read The Pioneer Woman. I find it interesting how many people of faith there are in Blogdom or perhaps it is that we just find one another. Have you tried those Crash Potatoes? If not, you must.

You're a thoughtful gal to send in pound cake all prepared for quick and easy eating. That sounds like a wonderful plan.

OH yes, I've made those apple dumplings. My grandsons thought there were awesome! And so simple to make! And as Vee says, you must try the Crash Potatoes. And her carrot cake is to die for, as are the blueberries in the yogurt and cream. Oh, I guess just about everything I've made from her recipes has been good!

I'm enjoying getting to know you through your blog. Glad you're not taking the work this week. Time to stay home and rest a bit!

Blessings, Marge

You go girl! It sounds like you were describing my house! My home has been neglected by my focus on other projects. The walls are frowning and blowing dust at me. If Mary Poppins is still not doing house calls, I suppose I'll have to provide some domestic TLC.

But first, a cup of tea...
