Dentist Appointment

Thank you so much for all your kind comments. My phone rang this morning with my daughter's voice telling me I have an appointment this afternoon with her former dentist. They are paying for all necessary dental work. I guess that means I can't ask for braces.

They had everything all in place by the time they called me. I have always told people I trained my children right because they feed me from time to time. This beats a pumpkin spice latte... by a lot.

My friend, Belinda (aka: Beebs, Busy Bee, BB) called last night while I was propped up against the kitchen counter putting together sandwiches for dinner. She didn't get blown away by the hurricane. Her part of Corpus Christi was only getting wind gusts from time to time. I don't know when I've ever been so happy to hear that Texas accent.

When I was describing the pain to her (and the fact that using hot salt water didn't help at all), she was certain the broken part of the tooth has exposed the nerve and the only probable solution was to have it pulled or a crown put on (and she knew I wouldn't pay for that).

As I told her, at this point they can take out whatever they need. Take all of them. I'll eat Jell-O (sugar free) the rest of my life. The pain on a scale of 1 - 10? 12... My ear on that side of my face hurts. Air hurts. Ow...

I am usually pretty calm about my health situation but this has shaken me. There has been speculation among my past doctors that a "perfect storm" of an intense time of stress combined with a tooth infection is what threw me into Juvenile Diabetes (whether it was a virus I had or the infection may be debated but they are pretty sure it was one or the other). Before that I had been quite healthy.

My father-in-law died as a result of a heart infection caused by a tooth infection, which was really strange because he was so careful about regular dental visits.

I once told my friend, Sheila (the Obama worker), this whole cost of medical care issue has me almost willing to vote for a Democrat... almost. :)

How very loving of your daughter to pay for your dental care at this time. I'm thankful you're getting this taken care of, Brenda. It's debilitating to go through this type of pain, truly.

My stepfather had a tooth abcess that went into his brain. Months of healing and weeks in the hospital. Poor guy.

God meets the needs - so no reason to vote for socialized medicine. ;o)

I can't tell you how happy I was to read this post! Your children are indeed a blessing to you. And you and your husband have been a blessing to them..... I was very worried about your condition because of my several years working for my father (the dentist) before I married.

Thank the Lord you are going to the dentist. Once you get really bad infections it is nothing to play around with. I'm sure your daughter feels blessed being able to help you. Please give us the word as soon as you get home from the dentist. Do you realize you have many friends out here that care about you and are praying you feel better? love ya, Trish

What an awesome blessing! (((((HUGS))))) I have made the same remark about the insurance issue to my husband. You know I understand completely as we do not have dental and recently had to drop medical due to the cost.

I'm with you on the last paragraph.
We have health insurance for some things for some of the family, but not everything for everyone-did you get that? :)
I've spent $132 times 2 this week for 4 teeth cleanings. We've had this dentist for 17 years so I hate to switch now, but he doesn't discount for non-insured patients. I think he used to....but he's recently moved into a nice new office. My children were also given very cheap toothbrushes, and 2 of them (on different days) weren't give the usual floss or toothpaste. I have a feeling he's needing to pay for his spiffy building....
I'm off now to get dd a pair of glasses. Thankfully THAT is only a $20 co-pay. :)

Glad to hear that you have an appointment and I hope that you start to feel better soon. (For such a small part of the body, tooth pain seems to cause lots of pain!)
