When she ponders deeper books while getting over the flu

I know, you are probably ready to tell me to stop whining already. It's just that... this has been one heck of a Winter with crazy weather and one illness after the other (which... I highly suspect... has not been helped by the crazy weather). We had been under a Winter Storm Watch but thankfully it hit Kentucky instead.

While I do plan to get some laundry washed, dried, folded, and put away... I am quite realistic as to how much I can accomplish with the continued achy feeling throughout every cell of my body. I have recovered enough to let my reading become a little deeper than cooking and decorating magazines.

On a stack next to the sofa, I now have four books (three of which I realized were Christmas presents from my daughter and son-in-law). They gave us The Reformation Study Bible which I am truly enjoying since Christopher is to busy with college classes to read it. I plan to do a little reading of the Scripture as well as notes in it today.

My everyday Bible is a Large Print Thinline NIV (not hugely large print but bigger than one would get in a regular Thinline Bible). It has no notes, which I appreciate when doing Bible studies and reading along in church (kind of reading along, my pastor uses the NKJV). I get so easily distracted by notes that I find myself reading them instead of the Word. However, this time that is what I want to do... Scripture and notes.

I love, love, love their gift to me called The Christian Imagination by Leland Ryken (editor). Today I am reading an essay by Luci Shaw called "Beauty and the Creative Impulse". I'm hoping to skim the small book they bought for Cristopher called Thoughts for Young Men by Ryle. I am neither young nor a man but I'll take wisdom where I can find it.

Last... but certainly not least... I hope to really get into Churchill's The Gathering Storm today. It may take me a year to get through the entire series but it will be worth it. Now that I no longer have long books to read for homeschooling (at least until Summer), I have the "book space" to dip into Churchill... at last.

Now I must put a load of whites into the machine (my son says he is out of socks), brew a pot of Earl Grey Green, throw on my flannel housecoat (I think I still have the chills but it is only about six degrees outside), and continue rehabilitation. I need my mom. Although I know once I saw Heaven, I wouldn't want to return!

Have a blessed day and I send out a prayer to the other bloggers who are suffering with colds, flu, and all things more serious.

I've got the Christian Imagination sitting by my bed and I'm anxious to get into it more! I think it's going to be really good.

And I need to get some of that Earl Grey Green! It sounds so good.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I loved your blog today. It has warmed my heart. My daughter and I are both sick with nasty colds, fever, aches, etc., and reading this has made my morning a little more bearable.

Thanks for visiting and for your comments. Hope you get free of that flu quickly. Sounds nasty.

Hope you enjoy Churchill's books. I did a post last month on his home and also his ancestral home if you did not see it when you visited.

Five of us are desperately sick here too. I'm not sure what it is-some type of flu. I'm finally able to sit up for awhile.
Here's to getting well for everyone who needs to!

Hi Brenda
greetings from chilly Connecticut. It is raining on top of the snow and its 32degrees-a truly nasty day. I've been sitting by the fire, reading, and studying. I hope you are feeling better. Alisa

Hey..this comment you made..."We had been under a Winter Storm Watch but thankfully it hit Kentucky instead". I live in KY...maybe I would have rather it hit IN.....just joking...just glad we all survived it whether it was IN or KY. Just wanted to tease you a little
