The Life Giving Parent: a review and a give away!
The Life Giving Parent by Clay and Sally Clarkson is considered the third book in the "Life Giving" trilogy with The Life Giving Home and the Life Giving Table compromising the first two books.
This book is mostly written by Clay so it has a slightly different feel to it than the previous Life Giving books. Clay writes like the theologian and lyricist he is. Which combine to offer parents sound Biblical advice but written in a way that is easy to read. In each chapter, Sally provides "Sally's Life Giving Momoirs" with a story from their own family.
The reader is presented with information to help raise their children to become the person God designed them to be with the talents and gifts He has given. However, most importantly, ideas are shared on how to raise children to have their own personal relationship with God.
This is one of those rare parenting books that dads will enjoy reading. It is also not just for homeschoolers but any parent will find good advice here. Based not only on decades of ministry but also raising four children who are using their gifts and serving God as adults.
The Chapters include:
1. Someone's Got to Give
Part I: Heartbeats of Parental Life Giving
2. Numbering Your Child's Days
3. Nurturing Your Child's Spirit
4. Guarding Your Child's Heart
5. Renewing Your Child's Mind
6. Strengthening Your Child's Faith
7. Shaping Your Child's Will
8. Cultivating Your Child's Character
9. Forming Your Child's Imagination
Part II: Living as a Life Giving Parent
10. One Life to Give
Epilogue: Our Life Giving Parent Story
I can't recommend this book enough. It is the kind of "meaty" parenting book many people have wished for. It is the kind of book that you would like to read but also a nonthreatening book to give as a gift to a friend or adult child.
Also available is The Life Giving Parent Experience, subtitled "A 10-Week Journey of Parenting for Life", which can be used in small groups for discussion.
The Life Giving Parent and The Life Giving Parent Experience were provided by Tyndale for the sake of review but the opinions are my own.
