I find that there is something about a well written Amish based novel that helps me relax, especially in summer when I prefer light reading. I'm pleased to say this novel by Amy Clipston is such a novel.
The plot centers around Rachel Fisher. In the beginning of the book the young man whom she had presumed would be asking her to marry him soon drops her for another girl. She accepts a job as a teacher's assistant to help keep her mind off of her heartbreak.
Since this is an Amish romance novel, you know there will be a young man come along but this story is different than others in the plot. Rachel becomes fond of one of her young students and through him meets his older brother who is helping to raise him.
There are the usual misunderstandings and rabbit trails involved in such a novel but they are written in such a way that it was hard to put down when I finally got into the book. Which brings me to the only thing I didn't like about it.
I thought Rachel was too bratty in the beginning. The character wasn't all that likeable at first. However, make your way through those chapters and the reward will be an entertaining "take me away from it all" read.
While this book is part of the Amish Heirloom series, it is easily a stand alone read.

I would think books like these would be very popular today. Seems like lots of us want to dip into a simpler time and, like you said, get away from it all.
So many authors make the mistake of not creating a likeable protagonist. If they can't make me care, and deeply, about the hero or heroine, I am going to hate the book. Glad that your heroine mended her ways...probably why she was dumped in the first place... =D
