I'm so pleased to be sharing about Sally and Sarah's new book today! At the bottom of this post, you will find a way to win both the book shown above and the companion book written by Sally and Joel Clarkson called The Life Giving Home Experience.
My daughter tells the story of being asked how we became friends with the Clarksons. Her reply was something like, "My mom blogs about her cat".
Actually, Sally Clarkson was my friend long before we met online and in person. I took Sally with me to the park as my homeschooled son wore off excess energy running up and down the equipment or hiking the trails... for that was when I would listen to her tapes on cassettes.
Sally was with me when I curled up at a corner of the sofa, a hot beverage at my side, finally getting a chance to rest after a long day. As I read her books, I felt she was there. That she knew me. That she understood.
I could connect with Sally in the way we were both deeply influenced by Edith Schaeffer's books. Especially from her book called Hidden Art (known as The Hidden Art of Homemaking in paperback). I always thought of Sally as the younger generation's Edith Schaeffer and shared with her quite often... mostly in the comments on her blog after a lovely post... that I would love to see her write a Hidden Art kind of book.
This book, The Life Giving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging & Becoming, is the answer to that wish from me and many others who have longed for it to be written. For Sally shares the hows of creating a life giving home as well as the reasons we should do so.
I now understand God's timing for this book. It could not have been written in previous years. It takes Sarah Clarkson's heart and soul and gifting to also make this book possible. For it is the coming together of the ideas from mother and daughter that creates something even better than it would have been separately. Magic. Narnia magic.
Sarah has the gift of a writer who takes us beyond the everyday world around us. She stretches the imagination. She makes the Incarnation real. Sarah's writing has always given me pause to ponder and reflect on the work God is doing in each of us. She once again brings such writing to the table in The Lifegiving Home.
The Life Giving Home is divided into two Parts. Part One is titled Thinking about Home. It consists of:

- A Symphony of Grace (Sally)
- The Rhythms of Incarnation (Sarah)

Oh my gosh! My youngest daughter is raising five childen, only two are her own, plus babysitting four others and this would be perfect. As a young christian she is instilling christian virtures on all these children and has been trying to find guidance in ideas, organization and old fashion advice to lean on in trying times with all the children. Just last evening I was re-reading (many years after the first read) 'Anne of the Island' - a sequel to "Anne of Green Gables', in which as a young university student, she has recently moved far away to another province. My thoughts immediately turned to Sally and Sarah's new book when I read Anne's response to a letter from her dear Marilla, who remained at home in Green Gables,
"...somehow it conveyed to Anne a whiff of the wholesome, simple life at Green Gables, with its savour of ancient peace and the steadfast abiding love that was there for her." I imagine that from Oxford where she studies, this is just how Sarah thinks of home.

I'd love to have this book. Sally is an old friend to me too, in the ways that you mention. She even made a video greeting for our co-op years ago, when we were listening to her tapes at our Mom's meetings. I found in her writings and her books someone who was a kindred, who had a desire for her home and family life to reflect beauty, love, creativity - all because of the creator!

I've read the chapter headings with interest. The rituals and patterns of daily life do change as our children leave home--and again with the advent of retirement. In spite of 'moving house' many times there has always been the dependability of hone-cooked meals, books, music, gardens and pets.
Church attendance and friendships made through church have been a constant.
As a homeschooling mom of four childreb 7 under this sounds like the perfect set of books to lay the foreground of our home and future. Plus it sounds like the perfect book that gets passed on and on and on!!
I have been a reader and been blessed by Sally and Sarah Clarkson for awhile now.... This book is brilliant in that the chapters are seperated into months of the year and their names accompanying.

I heard Sally speak here in Dallas in about 1999 or so. I went to many of her earlier Mom's weekend conferences here too. Our kids are all very close in age and we have followed a similar homeschooling path back in the early days. Her books ministered to me many times. This new one looks really good.

I would love to win these. I signed up for the launch party tonight, will be a little late - but this book looks perfect. I have chosen "Joy" as the word for our year this year b/c I need help with it and want to pass it along to my 7 & 11 yr old girls. Oldest has Asperger's & other things going on can be frustrating, need to remain joyful always! Part of the joy was inviting others over, etc, so the yearly book would be great to plan it all out!

Ever since I've heard about this book, I've been eager to read it. Having enjoyed some of Sally's books recently as I stepped in to motherhood, I can't wait to read this one!

This book has intrigued me since Sally introduced it. We still have one that we are homeschooling and I would love to do this study with her. Also, our area has so many moms that are searching for how to build a family that has values and a heart for God. I'm struggling in confidence to teach them, not having been trained from the previous generation. What a wonderful reference this will be.
