My World this Week

We are back in the deep freeze... literally.  My freezer in the garage needs to be defrosted but with outside temperatures below zero, the temperature in my garage is colder than in the deep freeze.  So that particular chore is put off until it is warmer.

In the meantime, there is the brewing of Holiday tea blends for they seem to be perfect for cold weather.  Then there is reading.  And the watching of special television events.  And shivering under a throw when a certain Maine Coon is not snoozing on it.

Reading

Farm-Fresh Recipes is a lovely cookbook full of recipes I have marked to try this week... more information can be found here.*  I've added this to the Amazon Favorites widget on the sidebar, too.

It is one of those cookbooks that has simple recipes as well as being full of beautiful photos of the author's organic farm.  Although the first recipe I'm trying is for brownies...

Sarah Morris Remembers by D. E. Stevenson, which I just started but found already lovely.  I had this on my shelves already.  There is a sequel but far out of my price range!

Watching

I have always loved the Winter Olympics and look forward to it every four years.  It has already been very enjoyable!

I love the back stories they do on the athletes and their families.  Of course, the commercial about the moms who supported their little athletes who later became Olympians can send me reaching for the tissue box.

Tweaking
I started the changes in the Study but I don't like the look, yet.  We will continue to tweak it until we get it right.

At least we will when it warms up in that room.  Brrrrr...

Tea Time
I didn't ask for a Victoria subscription for Christmas from Hubby this year.  Just too many other priorities.  But I was very happy the grocery store had one more copy of this issue left last week after I found out it had an article about the costume designer of the Downton Abbey clothes.

Hot tea and Victoria the magazine and Victoria the kitty and a sandlewood scented candle... makes for a cozy winter evening.

Her Fluffiness
If she is not yearning for the outside world by looking out the window blinds, she is curled up here on the throw.

I leave it for her at the end of the sofa if not in use when I am catching a quick nap.  I know I've shown a similar picture but she really is here a lot.

I found your blog and really love it. You are so talented to do so much with your home on such a limited budget. I, for one, could use some lessons.
I love how you talk about your faith and your cat. I miss my furry friends. Alas I am allergic and have finally given up having more of them.
I so love the red and crystal goblets on your table, the ones with the spoons in them. Where did you find those lovelies?

So one can keep a freezer in the garage that is not heated? Honestly, I had never thought of that, but I am thinking of it now. Hmmm...

I do not have that magazine, but I have another that discusses the paint choices of Downton Abbey. So interesting. So relaxing to read a fun publication.

Watched a little from Sochi last night so saw Mancuso win bronze. Great!

I also have recently discovered your blog and love it. I am a long time subscriber to Victoria magazine and save all of my issues. I love it and look forward to seeing it in my mailbox every month. Thank you for the time and effort you put forth in your posts. Stay warm this Winter and thanks again!

Hi Brenda;
I think when the sticky, hot, humid days of summer finally come, I will be wishing for a few "snow days". I am keeping the faith that summer will come, sometime. Keep warm and cozy. Love and Hugs, Nana

We once lived in a house where the fridge was in an unheated room and it stopped working. When the temps dropped to a certain degree we had to run a space heater in there to keep the fridge working!

I love how you've displayed your teacup collection! So pretty!

I'll have a look at the farm cookbook - looks good!

I love Victoria magazine! I didn't subscribe this year either - but I plan to purchase them, as they come out. Love your photo of the magazine and the tea cup! That is a good issue.

I like seeing what your doing with your bookcases. Can't wait to see it when it's done.

Stay warm friend!
Deanna

The companionship of cats makes every situation better--including this interminable winter.

I was thrilled to find Victoria magazine in digital format. I'd rather have paper, but since I am overseas digital is so much better than none at all. =)

Victoria magazine, tea, a kitty, what more could you ask for on a cold day? Looks lovely.

The sequel--Sarah's Cottage? I have that from the thrift store--it's the only Stevenson book I do own--throne of hers seem to turn up used very often around here. I didn't know I had such a find! I think D.E. Stevenson was some kind of distant cousin to my dad.

I got auto-spell-checked there--"Throne" should have been "none."
