There
were no severe money trials that season, nothing that should have kept
me from enjoying Christmas but… I couldn’t put my finger on it… there
was this sense of a lack of satisfaction… an unsettled feeling. - See

Soon
after that, I was reading an article (magazine… book?) about this very
thing. In it, the author said she learned to write out what it was she
wanted from the Christmas season, what was most important to her. When I
started doing that, I realized why the previous season had been lacking
in joy. - See more at:

I decided my annual "preparing for the Holidays" reminder would be good for this month's I Take Joy* post... just brushed off, spiffed up, and made more recent. :)

Yes, it's that time again. Thanksgiving (American Thanksgiving that is) is just a few weeks away! You can read the new and improved version... here.

Oh I loved that post. I could add reading that post to my favorite holiday things. One thing is certain, I am adding it to my sidebar.
I love this too!
Long ago I decided how I wanted the atmosphere of our home and worked toward that. We have made our home a place we love to be and we love to invite others to join us there, but even if it is only me sitting by the light of the tree, it is beautiful and it is enough.

Didn't get a chance to comment on this earlier, but wanted to. Love your idea of making a list for the Holidays! I followed your suggestion and did this last year and it was a blessing. One of things I really enjoy is driving around to see all the Christmas lights. We notice them in our comings and goings throughout the season, but it's more fun to drive through a neighborhood that has lots of decorated houses. Thank-you for the reminder. Love your tea set and dishes. Reminds me of Currier and Ives prints.
Blessings,

Making that list for a birthday or for Christmas is so helpful!!! I'm hoping to make mine soon....
Wonderful ideas and so thoughtful in each of your replies in the comments over at Sally's site. You are a spiritual mother to so many, so thank you for your words and your example. xo
On Vee's recommendation, I just read your post about preparing for the holidays. Such wise words! You offer sage advice for women at any stage of life or any circumstance. I will be sitting down early Monday morning (too busy this weekend to have adequate pondering time) to prayerfully make my list.
Thank you for this inspiration, Brenda! Holiday blessings to you!
It was Vee who sent me and I am so glad she did. I loves your post and intend to use a lot of what you said. Thanks!
I came over at Vee's suggestion today, Brenda, and I'm so glad I did.
Thanksgiving and Christmas will be different for my husband and myself this year as we moved from NYC to Colorado to live closer to our children and grandchildren.
After many years of an absence I will finally have my complete family together to celebrate with!
I'm staying realistic that my children have in-laws, and their own needs and desires, so I know we won't be together every holiday, but I am relishing this one as one we will remember!
I'll definitely be making a list of how I'd like to enjoy our first holidays in Colorado!
