Tweaking and turkey dinners

My servants wear red well...

Just popping in between housework and the noon-ish showing of Little Paris Kitchen... when I will take a break for a yogurt snack and enjoy Rachel Khoo make the most scrumptious looking food in her tiny kitchen.

I have been fairly busy this morning, a sort of cleaning by tweaking technique as I decided to do a little indoor work while I wait for the out-of-doors to warm up. Once my cooking program is over, I must slip on gardening gloves and begin the overwhelming job of trimming our front hedges.  It may take days weeks to finish.

Later this afternoon I will "make soup" from the turkey broth in the stockpot.  It has been sitting patiently in the refrigerator now for a couple of days letting all the fat congeal to the top.

By dinnertime, it will be transformed into turkey noodle soup.  The day I roasted the turkey, it smelled just like Thanksgiving!  I purposely walked out of the house to walk back in and breath in the aroma.  Of course, there were none of the glorious sides I make only on that Holiday but it was still "a good thing".

So, we've had turkey for a couple of days and some of the meat has been placed in the freezer for casseroles.  The carcass went into the stockpot where it simmered for a few hours to become a rich broth.  Tonight it will make its' soup appearance after playing a starring roll as turkey with mashed potatoes the first night and a contributing role in a chef's salad last night.

I really do have other posts planned but they will all have to wait their turn for the gotta do's of the season... that being lawn and garden season, not Thanksgiving.

Oh, yes... I am enjoying Candy Cane Lane tea thanks to a wonderful Christmas gift.  I did share one of the boxes with my daughter-in-law a couple months ago when she had a rumbly tummy... but otherwise it is mine, all mine.  ;)

Oh, my! What stellar servants you have! You are blessed! I'm headed outdoors, too. I tried this morning but it was too cold. The sun is out and shining and has dried/warmed things up :)

Very nice line-up! It makes me smile to think of you slipping out of the house so you could come back in and sniff the turkey. Have fun with the pruning. It did take me two weeks to whack my way through the forsythia.

Very pretty red appliances! Our coffee maker broke two weeks ago and I was able to find a red one (happiness!).

You made good use of that turkey and your days sound cozy (even though you have to whack hedges)!

You went outside just so you could come back in for the smell of roasting turkey! A simple and wonderful expression of delight in what might easily pass as an ordinary thing. A wonderful lesson in choosing gratitude and happiness - thank you Brenda.

Oh thanks for the chuckle...I love what you said about your appliances;-) Too funny. We used the last of the sale turkeys in Feburary...but have several hams from Easter sales.
Don't work to hard on the hedges.

blessings, jill

I cooked a chicken carcass into a delightful 2 quarts of broth this week.

I love using a turkey for these kinds of things too.

Love your servants!

Turkey sounds very comforting just now! So does any sort of soup. It's been sunny here but not yet as warm as it should be. Yesterday morning when I woke up my pansies lay apparently dead in their window box. We'd had a very heavy frost. But they've revived again. They are a tough plant, luckily. Have fun in your world! It will nourish you and your husband and then you can pass it on to others.
