My world this week...

The front porch is ready for winter
(yes, the ivy in the chicken basket is fake, so is the chicken)!

I'm starting something new, just to kind of stir up the dust around here.

I'm calling it My World This Week with a combination of prose and photos and it will look... well... a lot like this:

Reading

I found a copy of The Sister of the Angels for just a few dollars on Amazon, so part of my credit last month went to ordering it (sometimes "Acceptable" is just fine when ordering third party).  Thank you again, those of you who enter Amazon through the widget on the sidebar!

This is a Christmas novel based on my beloved A City of the Bells.  A lovely story which is sorta' about Christmas traditions and sorta' about creative people and a lot about Redemption... a popular theme with Elizabeth Goudge!

I was going to save it to read with my other Christmas novels during Advent but I couldn't wait... so it will be re-read then ... and that is definitely just fine with me.

Cooking

The oven is getting a lot of work again now that cold weather has arrived!

My favorite comfort food cookbooks were moved to the basket.

The recipe books shown have my favorite fall-winter weather recipes in them... other than those found in my recipe card file, of course.

I love getting back in the kitchen in cold weather.  We've had a couple different kinds of soup and there is leftover chili in the refrigerator... all in the last week.

Creating

I dried all the herbs and then placed them in the same basket where most came to me fresh...

Most of the herbs in the basket were brought by my friend, Carolee, when she and her hubby visited (early summer?).  Some are from my own garden.

I simply hung the bunches of herbs upside down on a hanger and left them hanging on the shower rod in the tiny bathroom.  We obviously do not use that shower!  ;)

Laughing

How could this face not make you smile?

Decorating

I moved this picture to my bedroom and switched it with...

... this bedroom picture which is now in the dining room.

Tweaking one of the walls...

Along with the former bedroom picture, I also placed the Friendly Village platter back on the wall.
I have found that if I don't change around pictures and such once in awhile, they almost become invisible to the eye!

Voting

My favorite American president...
I watched a fascinating interview with David McCullough on 60 Minutes recently.  He was asked who his favorite president is and he instantly said George Washington.  I agree!  This favorite artwork has been in a place of honor in many of our houses for a long time.

My favorite modern president?  Without a doubt, I loved Ronald Reagan!

Well, it has been a very busy week with lots of stuff going on here at home and lots of writing.   I need a nap.  ;)

Your home looks so comfortable and cheerful. I love the picture of Victoria.

Definately going to check out some of those cookbooks at the library.

Aren't you afraid that beautiful platter might fall from the wall and break?

Your home looks so inviting and cozy. I wish we were neighbors. My cabinets and counter tops are just like yours! Love the blue and yellow. Wish you lived nearby.

Brenda,

Since your funds are very limited, it is smart to tackle a home maintenance project when it is a small thing and the cost is usually small too.....In that regard, I noticed in the photo of your porch that the wood posts are needing to be sanded, filled and painted and sealed to protect them from moisture damage and rot at the bottom. This is less costly than replacing the entire posts.

The shape of your basket displays your fragrant herbs so well. It wouldn't stay so neat if there were catnip in it.
We have the same picture of George Washington in our house and I voted for Ronald Reagan years back.

What a fun post!

I love the print of George Washington! He's our favorite too! This is an amazing painting - we saw the original at Mount Vernon in the museum there!

Stunning!

I came over for a visit from Rosie's blog. I have enjoyed my time with you and your maine coon cat! She is so sweet. I had to laugh when I read Karen's comments about the catnip in your dried herb arrangement. Can you imagine that!? My cat nips at all the plants as it is and makes quite the mess. I can only imagine what your arrangement would end up looking like it it had some catnip in there!
I enjoyed the article you wrote over at Sally's blog as well.
Blessings,
Laura
