Rainy autumn day...

In my thinking, there is nothing as melancholic as a rainy autumn day and that is not a bad thing at all.  For it makes perfect soup making bread baking hot coffee reading weather.

I have a whole chicken roasting in the oven along with an onion and once the timer buzzes... they will jump into the stockpot with the juices and without the white chicken meat.

Can you believe it has been a week since my eye surgery?  While I am way, way behind on yard and garden work, blog posts, e-mails (some weeks behind), and books I wanted to read... I have been watching some DVDs and listening to the itty bitty iPod.

However, my eyes are now focusing and my energy is as good as it ever is.  Considering last week this time I couldn't SEE out my left eye, that is a very good thing.  (Clarification:  The laser is so bright it causes a temporary partial blindness.)

So... I'm trying not to be hard on myself because I still haven't written a post for Saturday or Sunday, or finished the Kindle reading post, or started those others spinning in my head.

I write at Mom Heart along side ladies who are professionals... speakers, writers, bloggers, etc... and sometimes I feel overwhelmed at all they accomplish.  I was sharing with a special friend how the enemy of our souls can make me feel quite inadequate among such talent.

Instead, the One Who Created Me also assures me to do the best I can and that is all He asks.  Although I must admit, I do get inspired by those ladies, especially to become more organized about my writing.  :)

Other than getting better, where have I been spending my time this week?

Always lots of the above...

Making certain the Kitty Queen gets enough attention and that her kibble bowl is full... how can you resist this face?

... And soaking in all of this, knowing the wind could blow away the leaves when the next storm passes.

NOTE:  I love getting your e-mails, even if I can't respond quickly and sometimes they even get lost when there were a lot of them at once.

♫ Feels like it's raining all over the world...♫

Yup, rainy here, too. What a good report you're giving us! Woot! Woot! I had no idea that you couldn't even see out of one eye last week. Praise God! I'm so happy for you, Brenda. You must be walking on a cloud.

You, my dear, have nothing to worry about where other professionals and writers are concerned. You hold your own in that company very well indeed. I'm still waiting for your devotional based on Sunday afternoon teas to be published. ☺

Oh, Vee... I couldn't see last Friday BECAUSE of the surgery.

The laser is so bright it causes a temporary partial blindness.

It sounds like you are enjoying the rainy weather, with all your projects and the Kitty Queen nearby, and how good your surgery was successful.

Don't become "professional." I spend most of my time on dishes and laundry, and it is so encouraging to hear from someone who understands daily life:)

The rain and wind have arrived here in the Pacific Northwest, as well, after a very sunny start to Fall.It does make one want to curl up with a cuppa tea and a good book or handwork! I even decided to make my first pot roast of the season today with our very own garden-grown veggies: My husband's favorite meal! Your special room looks so cozy, and inviting, along with your sweet kitty. So glad you're feeling back to normal again. I really enjoy your blog. I would love to be neighbors with you! I have a hard time not comparing myself with others, and feeling like I come up short, but I know God is not pleased when I do that.I think it's like the scripture that talks about the pot asking the potter, "Why did you make me this way?" I'm learning that God gives each of us different "talents" or giftings and it's up to us to develop them. Like I said, I'm still learning! It's a life-long process for me!!
Hugs and Blessings to you,
Laura C.

Brenda - it is that your writing oozes contentment in the simplicity of life that draws so many of us to your blog. Its like having a lovely, friendly neighbour to chat with over a cup of tea.
Yes, I read, and am blessed by some of the talented women of whom you speak, but too much pondering of their giftedness or achievements can lead to feelings of inadequacy in any of us. Let's be thankful for their words, inspired by them as we might be by a wonderful conference speaker, but know that you are the blessed neighbour who speaks faithfully into the ordinariness of most of our days. Be encouraged.

That face is cute! I'm so happy you are doing so well in your recovery.

I wanted to tell you that the recipe for healthy pumpkin cookies also makes a very good bar cookie. I had some dough leftover and made some yesterday. I did let them bake longer. My daughter liked them even better this way than dropped.

P.S. Sunny and hot here this week, but next week should be more autumnal.

Hi Brenda;
What a beautiful, beautiful your cozy room is, I love the picture! You know, even the Lord rested and perhaps that is what he wants you to do for a time. So, enjoy, all will be caught up in due time. Love and Hugs, Nana.

Goodness, I can't imagine why you are apologizing for not posting more this week. You are recovering from eye surgery, after all! Surely your readers can give you leave to get well. And I think you hold your won with other professional writers, I enjoy your writing very much.

Brenda,
I haven't posted for at least a year or more but I just have to say that I was really tickled picturing that chicken and onion "jumping" into the stock pot!! Sounds like material for a child's book. You know, cookies and things and chickens like the Little Red Hen. Your writing is a blessing. "Godliness with contentment is great gain" as the Word tells us. Have you readthe Bodie Thoene books? Historical fiction and very well written.
Blessings.

I adore those rainy, melancholy days. I have a dear friend who writes for Mom Heart...and she feels exactly the same as you do! You wouldn't be there if your voice wasn't important and an inspiration to us.

I love reading your posts, and seeing the beautiful leaves on your header. AND that sweet kitty's face.

I'm glad your vision is improving and that you are feeling good. Pace yourself and enjoy the restful days.

BTW, love that red mixing bowl in the drainer. That photo made me so happy. Signs of a productive time in the kitchen, and a cheery red bowl to boot.
