My office-sewing-crafting room

Knowing me I am certain there will be tweaking of this room as I go along.  But I really like the way the room is looking now.

I had to move a few items to get the desk to fit just right... like the lamp in the corner which used to be on the other side of the room.

Here's another slightly closer view of the first picture.  Notice the little dress form on the lower left?

It was a Goodwill purchase!  I saw it on the cart as they pulled it out (they expect people to buy off the carts at my Goodwill).  The basket and the yarn was also from Goodwill.

I love it when I find great things there really cheap.  They still have crazy prices on some items so I can't always find bargains.

These add to that Lady's Parlor look I ended up with (having no idea where I was going with the room in the beginning).

Speaking of Goodwill finds, here is a side view of the "office and sewing" table I found there.  It was just the right color and quite sturdy for using as a desk and for working on other projects.  It's longer than it looks here!

You can't see it from here but next to the sewing machine underneath the table is a basket where I can put all the office things quickly when I want to sew or craft.  That is... when there is not a cat in the basket.

My file folder holder is a vintage red wire basket that holds everything I need.  I know it was quite old because it had the original cardboard sign on it when I found it, probably from the 50s or 60s (hmmm... that means I am vintage, too).

You can't see the mug close up but it was actually my Dad's shaving mug that he was using at the time he passed away when I was a child.  It says "Father" on it and it's one of the few things I own that was his.

I love using objects that have personal history!  It holds crochet hooks at the moment.  My New Year's goal of teaching myself to crochet is late but I'm all prepared for cold weather crafting.

On the other side of the long desk is the cutest little lamp I bought with birthday money.  When I saw it, I knew it was perfect even though I hadn't found a desk, yet... and the price was right.

I slightly tweaked the bookshelf-dresser (which currently holds fabric and craft supplies) and I really changed my brown transferware display in the living room hutch.  I will share them next...

I hope you like what I've done to the room!

Pictures:  Sorry for the flash but that's life at the edge of the forest.  The walls are not nearly that stark white.

P.S.:  Oh, you asked... we ended up with about three inches of rain from Isaac and no damaging winds as they originally predicted.  Those happened more to our south and west.  We had an extremely soggy weekend but we needed the rain.

I like the way you've combined so many personal and unique items to create a space that is both comfortable and functional for you and your interests! And how the Heavenly Father "smiled" on you as you found so many of your pieces at a favorable price...

I love it! My sewing room looks nothing like that. It's crammed full, since it's not so big and because I stay so busy, it's not very clean either. :(

Isaac has already dumped more than that here. I think he joined forces with some other system. Very muggy.

Love your room. It really looks like you! I have one of those tables for my sewing machine table. Since I have a lot of junk...er stuff...to hide, I keep a quilt on it with an old glass top for the sewing machine to rest upon. That way, I can tuck things under the skirt and I can sew without the sewing fetching up on the quilt.

The birthday lamp is perfect!

Cute room and really nice Goodwill finds!! I have found it hardly worth entering our Goodwill store, there is so seldom anything worth bothering with...so they must vary from location to location...you are fortunate to have a good one!! On well, we are in the paring down stage anyway and I am taking good stuff TO them, rather than away. Happy hunting!!

We're getting the rain from Isaac now. It absolutely poured yesterday, and it is supposed to continue on and off today. There go my tomatoes. They'll crack from the excess water. At least I can fill up my rain barrel again, (which is an extra trash can on wheels, with a lid of course). The weather is as interesting as it is unplesant at times. HHH weather is the worst for asthmatics like me.

Your craft room is nice. I'll have one soon too as my youngest son is moving to California for a job. I'd be sad at his leaving except he's so excited! Well, I am a little sad, but I'll get over it.

Are you well now? I hope so.

Thank goodness Isaac didn't affect you too much.
Love your room, especially the yarn piled in the basket. Makes me want to knit something.

A room that really says, "Brenda". You're doing a great job of using it as a canvas to express yourself, optimistic, beauty loving, hospitable. And many other qualities as well.
