Kitchen tweaking

I love all the color in my kitchen.  It looks a little like a 1940s kitchen with modern appliances (and the paint chipping on the cabinets makes it look more authentic).  :)

In preparation for eventual garden (and farmer's market) produce, I made plenty of room on the antique sewing machine base, which has been turned into a table.

I love the chef bottle (probably meant to hold olive oil?), he was a recent Goodwill find that adds some whimsy... even if he is not a vintage look like the rest.

I stopped by the antique mall one day a couple weeks ago, it is near my doctor's office and I do enjoy perusing the various displays.  The red tray was a find for only a dollar!

I moved the basket where I keep some of my cookbooks to the vintage yellow cart where the Crockpot once resided.  It is now in the garage since I don't use it often in warmer weather (well, it was warm!).

The top of the frig remained the same but it fits in nicely.

My other kitchen decoration, the kitchen Supervisor.

She is allowed on the little kitchen island as part of her Queendom... but not on the kitchen counters... as I rarely prepare food on the island.

Things are getting interesting here.  Christopher is in his last week of classes and preparing for finals week.  I had a text when I awoke this morning, written from a McDonald's at 1:30 this morning... asking for a telephone call to make certain he wakes up for his first class.

He will live here for most of finals week so I can drive him in to campus for early morning finals (parking places are very hard to find).  Then he will move home (if they find someone to to sublet their apartment) until mid-May when he can move into Married Student Housing.  He graduates in December.

He and Mrs. Christopher will be living around the corner from where hubby and I set up housekeeping as newly marrieds when he was in graduate school.  :)

I have an appointment with the retinal specialist today, which tends to knock me out for the remainder of the day.  But tomorrow I start filling the freezer with cupcakes and other goodies.

That is just the beginning.  I wonder of Miss Victoria makes a good Sous-Chef?

Things are getting exciting! I think Victoria would be great company. Seeing her photo makes me miss our Maxx. We think someone must have thought he was a stray..he had no collar that day, and that they've perhaps made him a house cat and he hasn't gone outside? We haven't seen him on any of the roads....:(
Anyway - the kitchen looks good - you are getting prepared to make those lovely desserts for the wedding!

Enjoy this time!

Sounds like my kitchen. I have put my foot down when it comes to the counters but lost the battle with the island. They love it there. They can snoopervise all they want and get the heat from the lights above. 'Heaven'. She is a beauty, your kitchen helper. Deb

I enjoyed seeing the color and "vintage" character of your kitchen here...and also reading the PREVIOUS post of a much more serious nature.

I'm learning that while always living in the present with eternity in view, it is wise & instructive to occasionally review the past. Often it is possible to "trace His hand"... but when it's not, it is enough to "trust His heart".

I'll bet Miss Victoria will make an excellent sous-chef! :D
Sounds like the excitement is revving up with all the changes in store...

Exciting days ahead for you and your family with the upcoming wedding. When does Stephanie and her family arrive?
Your kitchen does look cheery. But I still use my Crock-Pot even in the summer, so I don't have to turn the oven on and heat up the kitchen. Roast chicken tastes just as yummy in the Crock-Pot, especially on a busy Sunday after Church.

Your style of kitchen decor is very like my daughter's--cheerful 40's items with lots of fresh-fruit red.
A cat can only add to the homey feeling!

Miss Victoria is imperial! She may consider YOU the sous chef!

I love tweaking my kitchen and any other part of the house I am inspired to tweek...The garden too. Some garden writer once said that the best gardens are the result of years of tweaking by a creative gardener. I firmly believe the best homes are a similar creation by devoted homemakers.

I was wondering about your kitchen 'supervisor' sitting on the island cupboard...then you explained that's the only place she's allowed. Thanks for sharing that little detail! Thanks also for sharing about Christopher. You know I love hearing about him! It serves as a reminder to me to pray for him

Hi Brenda;
I LOVE your kitchen (and also your kitty! She is a beauty, is that Miss Victoria?) It makes me want to redo my kitchen with different themes, maybe tomorrow will offer me some time to meditate on it, what a joy!! Love and Happy Day, Nana.

I love all your kitchen decorations!!!! Sorry about the retina apt. :( I hope you can relax some afterward. I'm kind of down about my eyes (must post sometime) but I guess this is what comes from struggling with auto-immune stuff, eh? :) am reading a book on Slowing Down and loving it so far. Will post details when I finish.

Cutest kitchen supervisor ever.I'm surprised she didn't decide to play kitty hockey with your glasses though.

Hi Brenda,
I've just popped over to your blog for the first time. A comment you left on the Down to Earth blog about two years ago really meant a lot to me today and so I just wanted to say thanks. Brenda@CoffeeTeaBooks said...

As someone who is now in their 50s, I realize so many seeds planted which will be full grown in middle age start in our 20's!

This is so reassuring and inspiring for me now as I'm 29 and struggling to see how I can make things work, whether I'm tough enough to cope with building the life I dream of. I really like the colours in your kitchen too by the way and especially your Kitchen Supervisor.

Thank you,

Claire

I know you must be excited about the coming preparations. I will be praying for you to have plenty of God-given strength and grace for the coming days.

I enjoy seeing your pics of Miss Victoria. Cats are my favorite pet. But when I entered my thirties I developed severe allergies to them. So Miss Victoria's queenly poses bring a smile to my face every time.

In His Grace,
Michelle

The cat is precious, but I could never abide an animals furry behind on my cutting board, or other kitchen surfaces. Especially when i know her little paws (cute as they are) have been in a LITTER BOX!
