Update about hubby

I'll be back a little later but I did want to let you know what is happening after my husband's fall night before last.

The local VA Clinic had us go to the VA Hospital (a long drive but they have the necessary equipment).  The drive there was pleasant as we passed many windmill farms which have been built in the prairie areas.  Fascinating to view!

By the time we drove home, the heat index was well over 100, we were tired, and there was a lot of construction on the highways (it IS still construction season, isn't it?).  Gosh were we glad to finally pull up in our driveway.  Our air conditioner cannot work but it was cooler than the outdoors because we are surrounded by trees.

So... the news was not so good.  He has a compound fracture of his collar bone.  He was given a sling to keep his arm and shoulder still but otherwise he is to stay on pain medication for a couple of weeks and to keep STILL.  Right, hehehe...  At least the pain is helping him remain still right now, we will see how long that lasts when he starts feeling a little better.

He's also very, very discouraged.  He had budgeted the income from his two weeks working at the bookstore and he was only able to get one day of work in before falling.  He says it is like God keeps peeling his fingers off trying to control life and is (trying) to get us to depend on Him.  Sigh...

Thank you for your prayers, my friends.

Husbands have such unique experiences with God. I'm sure that yours is discouraged because that is just normal when hurt and money is tight and one had a plan, but now it's gone another direction. Still, you have learned and taught us all so well that God will never leave you comfortless or without. You're both in my prayers.

So sorry to hear of this although probably the best place for all of us to be is to be totally dependent on HIM. Hope this injury heals quickly. Hugs

So sorry to hear of your hubby's accident and how discouraged he is. It's difficult for men to be still. When you have to depend on God, you will find Him to be dependable! He really does get us through so much in life. I pray that you will "lean fully on HIM."
I will be praying for a quick healing, and as you are "stayed upon Jehovah" that you will find perfect peace and rest.

Oh, Brenda, I continue to pray for you and your husband. You do seem to being going through a very Job-like season this summer! It's tough to live through this after everything else that has happened, but I know you will do it while remaining close to Jesus who is the heart of your lives. And may your husband heal well and things continue to do better. I do remember hearing more than once that we should pray as if it all depended on God and work as if it all depended on us. So certainly I don't think there is anything wrong with your husband making plans to accomplish things, and I am sorry it didn't work out this time. But who knows what plans God has for your future? What kind of comfort reading does your husband like to do? Perhaps you could get some books or books on tape from the library to help him get through this quiet time.

I am praying for you both - I trust that you will feel the Lord near, that you will obtain strength and peace from Him.

Brenda,
I am so sorry about your husband's fall. I fell and broke my collar bone the other year and it was very painful. I thought it would never heal. He is certainly in my thoughts and prayers as well as you!
Love,
Marie

ouch ....broken bones are painful. In bible study last night we read the Call of Abram in Genesis. Exactly on the topic of prying our hands off of our attempts at control.

I'm so glad it's no worse, but I'm sure it's frustrating. When one person in a household is hurting, all are hurting. Hope he heals up quickly. I'm saying a prayer for you both!

Brenda I'm so sorry to learn of your husband's fall. My husband is never a good patient when he's ill. I think it's a husband thing. I hope he's not too uncomfortable and heals quickly. It's hard to just be still. What will he do to occupy himself while he's recovering?

It's been a rough summer for you guys. You are in my prayers.

Hugs,

Manuela

Years ago I came across a quote by C.S. Lewis noting that "pain is God's megaphone". I thought of it when I read your post. I know from my own experiences how true this can be. Especially concerning Mike and my parents these past several years. You have my empathy and, of course, you're all in my good thoughts and prayers...as always.
Love,
Tracey

So sorry to hear of your husbands pain and restrictions. (I also read of your pastor's kindness...)

Hoping you continue to find creative ways to deal with the situation and are able to catch a peek now and then at God's grace covering and providing for all your needs.

I'm so sorry to hear of your husband's injury. Prayers for a quick recovery for him.

I too love the new windmill farms. There are many of them in West Texas. My dad is a truck driver and hauls the pieces for the towers. When you see those towers in four parts on big trucks you realize how amazingly awesome they are in size.

Life can really throw you for a loop all of a sudden, can't it? But oftentimes, as I'm sure you know, that's God's way of taking us in the direction He wants us to go in, not necessarily the direction we thought we were going.

I'll definitely be praying.

God bless,

Lady Kara
