Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

I awoke to such quiet this morning.  Really, really quiet.  So, I had to turn on the porch light and peer through the front room curtains just to see what the world looked liked.

Yes, there it was!  The proverbial marshmallow world in the winter.  Our first significant snow was falling at the edge of the forest.  Unlike the cozy feel of rain pounding against the window, snow comes to you in quietness and calm.  Unless it is a blizzard...

Snowed in... two lovely words when one was good and got all their errands run the day before.  Not that we're really snowed in, one could drive into town slowly if they had to but it is deep enough to stay home if you can.

Snow falling blocks a great deal of sunshine and as it is still early winter and there have not been weeks and weeks of clouds... an appreciation remains for the lights on the Christmas tree to be left on even in "daylight".

There is a deliciousness in being snowed in (whether for real or only because you don't like driving on slick roads).  It comes with a permission to have a snow day.

I've already skimmed a couple cookbooks for a soup recipe, decided to defrost a chicken which will become soup in a day or two, made oatmeal for breakfast, watched the meteorologist on the Big City station get all excited about snowfall amounts around the state (while Miss Victoria lay sleeping on the red flannel housecoat), and craved hot chocolate.

Eventually, I'll feel energetic enough to take a few pictures of the red barn against the white world but not yet.  Perhaps after making soup for lunch or at least enjoying hot chocolate.

Real life does persist in the needs of laundry done and dishes washed but there is in my near future the watching of a Christmas movie and perhaps a couple of cooking shows with Holiday themes and a decision which book to begin... or maybe just a nap.

The decisions on what to do when you do not have to do anything can be rather overwhelming.

Where I live in NC...we are supposed to get flurries today! Nothing big, except we don't get to see the white stuff often especially this early in the season! My kids are excited. Bring it on!

It's snowing just a wee bit here too. I posted about a book on my blog I'm sure you'd love. Hope you can get your hands on it. It's delightful. Have a wonderful day. Hugs

Your last sentence is a classic! So true!

We've had some snow days and it seems to be disappearing here in ne Ohio, and we're getting a bit of sun again. Slowly thinking about more Christmas decorating, but with Hungarian traditions this is really slow to begin! And we never take the tree down til after 12th night so I feel really out of sync with most of my neighbors.

We rarely get snow in San Diego, and of course it never sticks! But I spent Thanksgiving in the Rocky Mountains, and had my first "real" snow day on Thanksgiving itself!

I just tried the following soup recipe a few weeks ago & have been craving it again - I think I got it from a Gooseberry Patch cookbook - it's a crockpot one:
Dice up one kielbasa (I used turkey) and brown lightly in skillet for a couple minutes. Pour 2 cans of great northern beans (rinsed & drained) into a crockpot, top with the kielbasa and one chopped onion. Pour in 1 quart of beef broth. Cook on high for 1 hour and low for 6-8 hours. It smelled marvelous, was simple, and homey. Easy to make variations too.

Have a blessed day!

We have not had any snow yet...not unusual for our area. We may have flurries later and possibly tomorrow. It is below freezing here today, and it looks like it could snow...

I love days like you are describing! sigh, full of contentment!

We had snow covering the ground this morning that gave way to beautifully mild temps and bright blue sky. I love the kind of day you describe if there are not too many in a row. I hope that you had just the kind of day that you were imagining...cozy and warm.

Thank you for this post! I had just come in from running a few Christmas errands in our balmy 70 degree weather here in Dallas...ugh...bemoaning the fact that it wasn't just a wee bit cooler ( I would never even dream of wishing for snow!) Then I sat down to read my emails and then your blog, which I love, by the way. And I was blessed by your post today. Ahh! Snow, and being snowed in. So wonderful. Thank you for passing it on! Many blessings to you and your sweet family!

Even more than the snowy days, I love the snow at night. I love how it makes it so much brighter outside after dark. We live in the city so we have plenty of city lights to bounce off the snow and it is so bright and lovely at night, especially if there is a full moon. :-)

I love those quiet, quiet mornings when snow softens the buzz of activity.

And I love snowed-in days when you can anticipate pleasurable, home-y activities.

Had to chuckle when you mentioned being overwhelmed at all the possibilities of what you 'could' do on such a day.

Hope it wasn't toooo strenuous (LOL).

It is wonderful how quiet it becomes when it snows!! Here where we are at the moment, in balmy Jerusalem, it is anything but quiet...the city never seems to sleep. But we are having a great time anyway!!

We hear that it was trying to snow in NC when we called last night. And even in Seattle...snow in Dec. is not common, but they have it too!!

Blessings, Elizabeth
