Christmas at my house... part one

The weekend snow turned our world a lovely white!  This picture was taken after the snow melted just a little but it is still beautiful.

Miss Victoria has a new favorite place for her long winter's naps.  I couldn't find her one morning and imagine my surprise to see a ball of fur on my vintage tablecloths and hand made Christmas items.  There is a heating grate underneath the old sewing machine table.  :)

I especially love the way the dining area turned out this year.  This is the only place I can put up a tree and it is a rather Charlie Brown type at that.  But it is still pretty.

I found the buffet a great place to display Christmas sparkle.  Wonder if that trifle bowl will ever hold trifle?  :)

While inherited vintage items are the very best as they bring with them good memories (hopefully), I also love to take care of another's precious Christmas decorations.

Above, the first picture shows a vintage Christmas decoration which was in my husband's family when he grew up.  The sweet Santa with his sleigh was purchased at an estate garage sale when we lived in Detroit.  I was able to speak with the family of the grandmother who had passed away and whose items were being sold.

This was one of her favorites and now it is mine. The packages are wrapped in real wrapping paper which is now quite old.  They must be handled very carefully but create an authentic (for they are all real) vintage look.

I saw something similar to this candle display put together on a primitive country decorating blog.  That is wheat forming a bed for the candle and the bowl was my mother-in-law's old salad bowl... which I have never used for salads.  :)

For the most part, the items on the this cabinet remain the same but additions were made to make it a little more Christmas-y.

We will visit other rooms tomorrow!

Oh, Brenda, this all looks so Christmas-like. I really have to get busy! I especially like the glass ornaments in the glass container. Is is for trifle? Andyway, it looks lovely! And so does Miss Victoria.

Thanks for sharing. I just may do the same. Of course I love the antiques best.

I think your tree is very pretty! You have lovely ornaments.

The trifle bowl with ornaments is one of the ideas I shared for a simple Christmas at our tea the other night. The ornaments are so beautiful in your bowl!

Thanks for sharing your home - it looks lovely. Victoria is one smart cat!

Victoria is a very intelligent cat...I'd love having a cozy bed above a heating vent. Ha! Everything looks Christmas cozy at your place...the tree, the buffet, it's all lovely!

Your decorations are very pretty. My mother had a trifle bowl, but I let it go to auction. Now I wish I hadn't done that! Our kitties like the heating vents, too. One would think their skin would get too dry, but so far so good. About time to start the humidifier anyway. Enjoy all that wonderful Christmas/winter atmosphere! Bess

Brenda,

Love the vintage decorations and the rest of the room looks beautiful! I have "inherited" items from sales as well and always ask about who owned them. I have three turquoise enamel bowls hanging on my back porch that belonged to a womans grandmother from Alabama. She lived on a big farm and the woman remembers shelling bushel after bushel of peas into them. : )

We have ended up the caretakers for quite a few other families' treasures. :)

Brenda, your decorations are lovely! I am living out Christmas vicariously through the blogs of others this season. Keep sharing!

I laughed at your husband's delayed observation that ornaments were missing. My husband is the same way — even if I've told him they are missing! LOL!

Hugs, Karen

Your decorations (and your home) are lovely. Thank you for sharing. I don't think that your tree is Charlie Brown's tree at all. Now, our tree has been climbed by our two kitties until the entire center of our pre-lit tree doesn't light up. Striped tree, anyone? Miss Victoria seems far better behaved than my kitties!

Dearest Brenda,

Your house looks so cozy and inviting! Your tree is not Charlie Brown at all! And the vintage decorations are just the sweetest of all.

Thank you for sharing your home!

Yours kindredly,

Hi Brenda ~ everything is lovely! I especially like your vintage Singer and the vintage items on your buffet. I have two little elf-like Christmas pixies that have the same look.
