I think I've become a bear of little brain...

It could be the cooler weather or perhaps the change of seasons... but my mind  is quite foggy.  Worse than usual.  I have decided I am on the way of becoming quite like Pooh... not only my rounder waistline but in the way my brain works now and then.  Of course, one could do much worse than become Pooh-like.

I have fond memories of walks and bicycle rides when Stephanie was quite young, as we followed Pooh tracks searching for his sticks.  What can I say... we have quite active imaginations.  :)

I am looking forward to more peaceful days ahead after a week of busy-ness.  For the first time in months, my dishes have stacked up into the second day!  But after being gone most of the day and then fixing dinner... all I want to do is rinse the dishes and give them a promise of more attention later.  However, tomorrow looks less hectic so I can see some good deep cleaning ahead.

I had the strangest thing happen today as my number of Followers went down by quite a few.  Normally, I would rarely notice the number but the fall was quite startling.  Sometimes I have had this happen after recommending books or movies or TV shows or... whatever... which some may deem inappropriate.

Which usually happens after I admit my obsession with NCIS or that one of my all time favorite episodes of a TV show was Bad Blood on the X-Files.  Hmmm... I have learned not to let numbers going up quickly get me giddy... nor falling just as quickly get me down.  Sigh... I bet it was my longing to have tea with Ratty and Mole.

The leaves are turning beautiful shades of gold and rust with a little red here and there.  We are definitely not near peak, yet... but pretty.  I can once again see my neighbor's red barn from the front porch.  That alone should make me happy.

I was driving on a "near country" road close to campus this morning when two flocks of Canadian geese passed over the car so closely, I thought I could reach out and touch them... what Christopher calls a National Geographic moment.  All signs of the season... although I hope it does not mean early winter and those birds know something I don't.

With the cooler weather, there has been the mixing together of soups and stews and just last week, I made a double batch of my favorite pumpkin cookies... recipe here. These now surpass my cowboy cookies as the most requested by friends.  Right after frosting, I press about a dozen of them into finely chopped walnuts or pecans for those who love such nutty additions.

Oh, I have been asked how I have pumpkin!  I stocked up on it during the Holidays last year, as I do every year (canned pumpkin in the pantry and cranberries in the freezer).  I think I have one can left and I hear there may be another shortage this year due to the wet spring.

E-mails are a little passed due (as well as dishes and vacuuming) but soon... very soon... they will be caught up.  Hopefully.  Prayerfully.  Soon.

Tossing Pooh sticks into a creek is one of my favorite memories of time spent with my son. I too, am feeling a bit like Pooh lately and identify with you completely!

Kindred-spirits: I stocked up on pumpkin too!

I enjoyed your post and don't worry about the numbers. Write for yourself. That's the way your friends like it best!

Lately, with winter fast approaching, I wonder where Fall is going so quickly. I think I would almost enjoy a Pooh moment. I think it's a good thing, right? It sounds like you have been really busy lately. Hope you get to slow down for some of your wonderful tea's.

I saw 4 geese fly over on my evening walk this evening. I love the sound and sight of them. Lots of big flocks of birds flying over is one of the fall things I love about living in Indiana.

Yes, there are far worse things than being like Pooh. We're all a bit like Pooh from time to time. Thing is, he's so charming and when I'm behaving like him, I'm not quite charming. I don't think. I don't know. Haven't asked anyone...

"A National Geographic moment" is a nice way to describe such things...

I was just thinking of Ratty and Mole this afternoon, and there you mention them! Hubby and I had afternoon coffee and watched an old British mystery with Lord Peter Wimsey (Ian Carmichael playing Lord Peter)..... and I remember him narrating the old BBC Wind in the Willows series from way back when.

Funny what makes numbers go up and down......

Enjoyed your ponderings today!

I read there was a glitch that affected the numbers of followers, it is supposed to be fixed now. I wouldn't worry about it, you aren't really losing followers.

I too stocked up on pumpkin when I heard last year that it would be in short supply. The fresh pumpkins here in the central part of NC seem to have grown well. VERY large and extended season...for all veggies actually. In fact our spring/summer co-op even offered us a fall season of veggies and fruit. Today we got the last of the peaches (unheard of so late in the year, most anywhere I think) along with many other yummy things. We are indeed grateful!! Raising food here is not easy, as the soil is basically just good for tobacco and pine trees!! So we have not tried to do a garden yet, and too being in a rental...

Blessings and I hope you will find the pumpkin you need for this coming year!!

Your longing to have tea with Rat and Mole would be a reason for me to *continue* reading your blog. :) I can certainly relate to being a bear "of very little brain" as I've been experiencing the same thing lately. I don't often have time to comment but I regularly read your blog. Thank you for the constant encouragement and like-minded ponderings.

I am a follower! I have never been a follower before, Brenda, in fact, I never even paid attention to what it was on blogs even though I have seen it. How many other daily readers are out there that are not official "followers"? Who knows? You have the main follower above and I know that he reads your thoughts every day. Please keep writing.

Your numbers may be going down because at least for me "My Yahoo" hasn't been updated since the "In My House" post in September (29th).

I thought you just haven't posted for a while and was delighted when I went on your blog without following the "My Yahoo" page and was delighted to find that you've posted many times since.

Thank you for such a wonderful blog.

:-) Enjoyed your post today. I always enjoy your post. Your blog is the only one I read in the morning, while checking my email, before starting the day.

I'm glad you mentioned following. I thought I already was a follower. But after checking- was not! Though I have been reading for sometime now.

Looking forward to trying the Pumpkin cookie recipe!

Have a greatly blessed, warm and cozy weekend.

From another friend and Pooh brain, =`)

I read your blog for a year and a half before I became a follower. I didn't even realize there was such a thing. I check your blog every day and enjoy it very much. Recently I just started blogging and I write for myself and a few friends that I know are reading it. Just the fact of writing it gives me pleasure ... Blessings, Ann

Hi Brenda! I have a hunch your decline in followers may have much to do with computer glitches. As you know, I've long been a follower (years now) of your blog. Just now I tried to add myself as a new follower. Usually when I try to follow a blog that I already follow the computer reminds me of it. Just now, with your blog, the computer didn't recognize me as a follower and added me again. Sooo...my long winded theory is that Google somehow inadvertently dropped some of your followers (me included). Just a hunch!
Love and good thoughts from,
Tracey.x0x
P.S. I enjoy X~Files and NCIS too...I think it has to do with the mystery/riddle solving aspect of them all...but that's just another hunch. ;)

Last year pumpkin was high priced and not in good supply especially in my dint store. Then right after Thanksgiving they had tons of organic canned pumpkin..expiration date 2 years away for 20c a can!! Needless to say I have some of that still. :) Brenda you just keep being you and we will keep coming back! Never worry what others think or don't think! I am not an official follower but you are the first place I go every time I turn on the computer...for years. From you I go on your blog or pantry listings and follow a few other of my favorites. Which by the way, I am grateful you have listed for us. So even if you haven't been able to put in a new post I am still here every day checking to see if you are still ok and going from there. :) Sarah

I think Tracey hit the nail on the head about your followers!

I am going to make those cookies tomorrow!

We like NCIS at our house as well.
