Of burdens and blessings
As with so much of the ebb and flow of life, there are good days and not so good days. These past two weeks have been burdensome with unexpected breakdowns including our sceptic system (not so good) and our car (which is in the shop for the second time in two weeks).
When one's budget is already built on faith, all one can do is Pray... a lot... and Trust... sigh. Thank God, we found a way to solve our septic problem for less than a hundred dollars.
In the midst of all of this, I opened the rural mailbox to find goodies! One was the paperback book about deepening the pantry I purchased with Amazon credit (thank you SO much, you are all a blessing). I plan to write some more pantry posts soon and this book looks like it will give me lots of inspiration and new ideas.
The other package was a belated gift from my dear Tracy McBride. I had won a give away of one of her books earlier but circumstances prevented sending it (her family going through their own trials and tribulations this summer).
However, today was just the perfect day to receive Frugal Luxuries and Frugal Luxuries by the Seasons (both are absolutely wonderful books!)... and they are autographed... to me. :)
Many years ago, Tracy's book Frugal Luxuries had a significant impact on the way I live my life and enjoy beauty on a budget. Thank you, my friend, the timing was perfect and not a moment too late. I can't wait to read them again.
By Monday, I think the dust of all the unexpected busy-ness of this week will have settled and I can start working on the Book Recommendations list as well as a Books Read in August post.
Speaking of burdens, my prayers go out to all on the East Coast of the U.S. Especially to another author friend, Sharon Lovejoy, whose house in Maine may be in the path of the hurricane!

Just stopping in to say hello again!! Hope things are getting straightened out with the septic and other things.
How timely your gifts were...a reminder that you're on His mind. I know that you receive them in that spirit, too.
Ugh! That hurricane! I hope it takes off for parts unknown. The humidity is already oppressive and they're blaming him for that.
I agree with you about the burdens and blessings in everyone's lives, and prayed last night that the storm heading to the east coast will VEER OUT TO SEA. I am on the west coast, but am concerned about all the east coast folks.
The books you won sound very perfect for your interests and for mine.
I love how the Lord sent those books today as a reminder of His care for you!
I just may ask for Tracey's books for my birthday! :)
A few years ago, I got Frugal Luxuries at the library when my husband's workplace was shut down and serious economising was necessary. What I liked about it was that it's more about positive attitude and sensible living. It's not the usual list of "Wow, I saved a whole penny!" hints.
Adding my prayers for those on the east coast and those in the Caribbean.
I just picked up Frugal Luxuries by the Seasons at the library recently. I'm reading it right now!

Hi Brenda--thanks for asking for prayer on our behalf. I am thankful for peace at the moment. I don't know how I'll be when I see her going into surgery....in a few months.
I understand exactly the feeling about unexpected breakdowns. You can believe me -- in the back of my mind I'm seeing $ signs rushing by every time a new dr walks in. :) Fortunately, we do have good insurance...once the deductable is met. :)
