Wobbly feet

After two days of being out and about, I needed to stay quiet for a couple of hours this afternoon.  The part of me which wants to do everything all at once is having a rather serious discussion with the more reasonable side.  As it turns out, reason prevails only because I had to veg out for awhile.

I feel a bit like those newborn four legged animals as they do their best to walk but all four legs go every which way beneath them... only in my case there are only two and both are wobbly.  I had to go into town to purchase cough syrup and since I was in the vicinity, I stopped by Goodwill and spent about an hour perusing everything (which was probably longer than I should have been out, having just spent weeks on the sofa).

I found the cutest ruby red child's rubber boots for $2.99, which will hold a handful of American flags come warmer weather.  They will replace the child's cowboy boots I had set out for the same purpose last year only to have my neighbor's dog steal and chew both of them. Which is why everything small on my porch is set on shelves.

It is cold and cloudy here today but warmer weather is on the way... warm and sunny.  Hallelujah!  There is less snow on the ground every day and once we hit 50 degrees, that should take away what remains.  It won't be long until we can decorate the porch for spring.

I took Miss Buncle's Book off the shelf last night.  It will be the first D. E. Stevenson book to read, followed by Miss Buncle, Married.  Then I plan to read Mrs. Tim Christie (after that I'll have to decide between a few).   All three books were gifts from very sweet bibliophile friends.  I'd heard of Elizabeth Goudge before (my mother-in-law had read her books) but not D. E. Stevenson and given the overwhelming response when Stevenson's name was brought up a year or two ago, she has quite the following.

Stephanie texted me earlier this week that she had seen the first robin of spring (that being a family contest and the robin being the official family bird).  Her father says he is calling a family meeting to issue a formal complaint.  He believes it must be a Midwestern robin.  Although he tried to tell me this morning that Victoria saw the first robin as she has been looking out the window all morning.  Uh, huh...

Glad you are better, Brenda! Try not to do too much! Queen Victoria seems very prim in her window appearance. She is rather like The Queen who appears only to give a modest wave. :)

Take care,

Matty

Perhaps you browsed too long, but sometimes we just need to care for the soul, too. Those little red boots sound sweet...perfect for what you have in mind.

I've been sick for a week today, bad cough, etc. As soon as I stop coughing I'm going to the Salvation Army store and look for a child's boots! What a clever idea! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the book recommendations. I can't say I've read any of your favorites, but I'm looking for them in my local library. Are they OOPs?

I bet even though your physical stress was a little more than it should have been, your emotional and spiritual well being was served by the lengthy visit to the thrift store. I hope you take it easy for a few more days and regain your strength bit by bit. Spring is right around the corner -winter may try to hold on, but it's going to be defeated sooner or later!

I am glad to hear you are feeling better! I have been reading a lot, but then again I am stuck at home recuperating from knee surgery. I just finished Jan Vedder's Wife this morning (pub 1885).

Take it easy for a bit longer...

Isn't that funny! My mom and I have the same contest, her in SW MI and me in Lower Alabama. I usually win, as they winter here, but she called me a few weeks ago with her sighting.

Glad you are feeling better.

I have not YET seen a robin here in central Indiana but I heard delightful songs of birds yesterday! After that, I went for a walk on our (almost ours...) little 1.28 acre in the country yesterday and was yelled at by a hawk! (Reminds to do research on how to protect our future hens from big bad nasty hawks!)
I hope you feel better very very soon!
