More Christmas book talk

I can't believe I forgot to mention the granddaddy of all Christmas books... Dicken's A Christmas Carol. When I first told my students at the homeschool co-op we were going to read it (my last year in the co-op) at first they didn't look very happy. They ended up loving the book and we agreed it was wonderful. Even those who thought his other works a little difficult enjoyed it.

They were surprised when I told them my favorite film version of the book was The Muppets Christmas Carol. Those who had not seen it found a copy to watch during the weeks we studied the book and they all agreed it really was excellent. I think my second favorite is the performance of George C. Scott but I also liked the one that has Jean-Luc Picard (I mean Patrick Stewart).

I'm on the lookout for a few of the movies which have been mentioned that I have not seen before. Once the weather clears up (perhaps in a day or two?). It is absolutely wretched out there now. It sounds like a hurricane instead of a snow storm.

Regarding Merry Christmas... yes, I have friends who are Jewish and Hindu. One thing about living in a college community is the diversity. I have sent Happy Holiday cards to my Jewish friends, unless I took the time to buy a Happy Hanukkah card. Although we've known our Jewish friends for so long they would not be offended getting a Christmas card but I want to show them respect.

Brenda,

Wanted to say thanks for the reminder of Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon! I pulled it out this week and reread it! So wonderful and satisfying at this time of year! I love her Mitford Series! Anyway, I linked to you in my post tonight!

I also wanted to say that we are huge fans of the Muppets version of
a Christmas Carol! And also the George C. Scott version was my favorite until Patrick Stewart did it! We love Jean-Luc Picard, I am mean Patrick Stewart, as Ebenezer Scrooge!

I hope you are warm there - today here in PA we had a mild day but tomorrow it is to be very cold and windy - in fact the wind has already started!

We've been reading a few pages each night of A Christmas Carol....taking tiny nibbles and trying to make it last until Christmas....we are enjoying Charles Dickens' writing so much. The Muppet Christmas Carol is our favorite, too! I love the way they used actual quotes from the book.
We had about 10" of snow in southern NH but a lot of it is gone today thanks to some warmer temps and sunny skies. There is still plenty to go around, though, much to my daughter's delight. Have a blessed day in the Lord.

I love Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." I don't think I've read any other book as many times as I've read that one. I'm definitely a fan of "A Christmas Carol" with Patrick Stewart. I'm actually going to watch it in a few minutes! I haven't seen the Muppet's Christmas Carol in years... Honestly, I'm a big fan of the animated version of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas." :)

I never in a million years thought I would find another soul, let alone the other two commenters, who loved Muppets Christmas Carol like I do! I love how your blog is full of such wonderful surprises!

We started reading Dickens today. His writing is amazing!

Praying for your brother-in-law's family.
