Signs of a new season

I thought it quite funny when I was reading through some blogs and saw this morning's post on High Desert Home. You can visit there by clicking on... Indoor Signs of Winter.

For that is the same thought I have had for the last few days, except I've been looking out the window, too.
(All pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.)

I can now see my neighbor's barn from my porch.
This picture was taken from the fence on the country road.

Some of my porch "furniture" has been brought inside.
It will soon have Christmas items displayed.

The rocking chair from the porch is now in the family room so the family room rocking chair is now in the living room... did I go too fast on that one?

The centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner has been made. All the pieces collected over many years, all items originally quite expensive but purchased at garage sales and thrift stores for a song.

(That oval platter retails for $100.00 and I got it for $5.00 at a garage sale in Detroit.) Yes, it is indeed possible to have beautiful things on a budget. :)

Just experimenting with these particular ornaments in a silver bowl.
I like the look.

Another experiment using vintage ornaments found while thrifting.
I saw something like this in a country decorating magazine.
Loving this look, too.

Added Note: I realized if you don't click on the picture of my living room and see that it is a CAT on the sofa, it looks kinda' like a skunk. Sorry Sash... but you really do. :)

It's fun to see photos of your place and your decorations/thrifting finds! The jam sounds really nice -- I will keep that idea tucked in the back of my head.

Lovely pictures. There are some good aspects to the change of seasons, even though I was shocked at more than 12 inches of accumulated snow on my deck this morning. That lake effect snow. And my daughter Emily and her family are driving here from Pennsylvania this afternoon.I'm praying for travelers today. But soon, I hope, we will all be together enjoying the blessings of coziness.

I have just finished decorating for Christmas. I have been going through my rubber maid bins now and looking at the items I have purchased over the last year at garage sales, on Boxing Day (that's Dec. 26th in Canada where we get 75% off items in the stores) and I was so thankful to God for His provisions, especially this coming Christmas with my husband being out of work for two months. I have some items that I have purchased for so little but at full price I would NEVER have afforded...
I love the pictures you have shared. You have a beautiful home!

Brenda, I've been visiting your blog for a little while now, and I so enjoy your sweet company. Funny, isn't it ... the way we 'spend time' with friends these days. I've been reading some of your older posts, and I have particularly enjoyed the thoughts you've shared about making a home a respite from the world. I've always cared for my home and it's occupants, but I've never considered it quite the way you've presented it. Thank you for opening my eyes to a new 'ministry' opportunity for me. I'm already looking around my home through the new 'glasses' you've given me, and I've started taking action ... small steps though they may be ... I'm already feeling the joy of a new adventure.

Your home is so warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing. Also I am enjoying Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring on your music. A handbell choir played this as the bridesmaids entered the church for my wedding almost 25 years ago so it has been bringing pleasant memories.

You have such a cozy home, Brenda. I could happily sit a spell over a cup of tea. Yes, kitty does look a bit suspect in that photo. :D

Your experiments are going very well and I think that you are on the right track.

One of the reasons I enjoy late autumn and winter is because of the opened views...your neighbor's barn being a case in point.
