Resting, research, and weather changes

I can tell the weather is once again changing. There was quite a wind chill on the way to the mailbox today... brrr. Signs we are nearing November include:
  • A continuous carpet of leaves on my front porch and thus, finding their way into the house
  • Warm weather clothes are put away
  • Sweaters and long sleeved shirts are now hung in closets
  • I've used the dutch oven or the soup pot everyday this week
  • My jacket is draped over a chair if I'm going outside again
  • The lawnmower blade has been lowered to mulch leaves
  • I'm sleepy by 9:00 in the evening and the time hasn't even changed
  • My thoughts are leaning toward Christmas baking and most of all...
  • The beds now have their flannel sheets and pillow cases... oh, so warm and cozy
My hubby has been using the computer during the days but I have been able to get some more research in to locate good "deepening the pantry" websites. Tomorrow I will look up some favorite emergency preparedness sites.

My plan is to continue some more pantry posts but also put together a new side bar of pantry and preparedness links that one may come back to at anytime. I have a pantry post nearly finished and ready to go within a day or two.

It has been quite an interesting challenge to depend almost entirely on my pantry this month. I'm pleased that I have been able to make good meals (if simple), especially in the evening. I definitely need to add additional fruits and veggies. I missed the stock up sale at the grocery store this year as it happened (unfortunately) this month when I had no money to spend. Ouch...

I had to return quite a few books and DVDs to the library this morning. As usual, I didn't have time to watch most of the movies but I kept The Darling Buds of May DVD series to enjoy in the next few days. I used to watch it when it was on the British Night of our local PBS station (many years ago) and it is truly a favorite.

Since hubby has had to be on the computer, I haven't had a chance to return e-mails! He's setting up something in Excel but he should be finished soon. Otherwise, we're just competing for computer time when he's setting up his fantasy football team. This has not been a good year for his team... we do not mention it to his face. Thankfully, his real life team (the Chicago Bears) won last week to lessen the pain a bit... just a bit.

i LOVE 'words have a conseuqences'. I just finished a devotional this afternoon on the power of the tongue...

Just wanted to let you know I finished writing another devotional on my blog and you were mentioned,,lol.

I too am looking foward to the pantry post,,and can't wait to start using the side bar for more pantry information.

My husband has been out of work for over a month now, plus we just found out he has high blood pressure (border line diabetic). You were the first person I thought of when we found out the news of his blood pressure and also his job loss. I remember reading an entry about when times were very difficult financially for you also. You are such a blessing. Never met you face to face, but you have become such a part of my daily life...
Take care precious one and know you and your family are prayed for daily!~

Hmmm, comments have changed. Just waiting for them on tomorrow's post to see if it's true on mine. Yours is the third blog I've visited this evening and it's making me wonder if I'm dreaming. LOL!

My your list of how you know it's autumn is so like mine. I almost went to bed at 9 this evening because I could hardly keep my eyes open. Guess I've revived as it's now 9:56. Looking forward to all your upcoming features on deepening the pantry.

Sometime I think you should make a list of all these wonderful British shows you get from the library so I can keep a list of what to order. :) :)

Somewhere I read that there was a series of British shows on a loving family...perhaps in the war years or such.[ or 50s or ?} It was not a mystery...more like novel. People raved about them. If I heard the name I would probably remember it but it sounded so good. I would like to see if our library could find some of these movies for us. Thanks for the references later on your sidebar...such a help. Even here with the leaves now falling and cooler days I am feeling that feeling and got out my fleece robe and put out the throws on the couches. Each season has its wonders and pleasures. Isen't God awsom to make such a world for us.....

I just love The Darling Buds of May. Another more recent one is The Good Life. Its really funny and just how I feel about opting out of the rat race. I so look forward to your message each day.

Cheers Gail

I think many of us must be "nesting" with the pantry focus and cooking and baking. I have been making lots of spaghetti sauce, pizza crusts, and lasagna for the freezer. It is son nice to have something ready to pop into the oven on days you just don't have the energy to make dinner.
