Will be back in a couple of days

I had a... um... "little"... brush with ketoacidosis this morning. Unlike the last time when I ended up in the emergency room and in intensive care with an insulin drop for two days, I was able get my bg levels down below 300 by just taking extra units here at home.

For all of you who know much about diabetes, you're fainting dead way because I didn't go to the hospital. Well, I am uninsured or I probably would have but I could also tell this was not at the level as the last time (when I fainted). I was very dizzy but not at the point of nausea and I wasn't dehydrated.

We had family emergency prayer (including Christopher calling his sister and waking her up).

I'm feeling much better but I need to stay on the sofa a day or two while healing completely. Thankfully, my bg levels have been staying level all day. You can rest assured I'll be eating meals at their scheduled time and get plenty of rest unlike this past week.

I have a doctor's appointment already on Friday when I'm picking up a new long term insulin that you only take once a day (although there are still the two to three shots of short term insulin injected each day so I'm actually adding a shot). He thinks this will go a long way to stabilizing my bg levels.

Please know that I will be praying for you. It sounds like you have made the proper evaluation of your situation and are determined, with God's help, to do what you need to do to get past this. I too am a diabetic. However, I have never experienced what you are going through so I can't say, "I understand." But I can say, "I care!"

I don't know much about diabetes (I don't even know if I spelled it right), but I'm praying for you. I'm so glad you knew what the problem was and what to do about it. Do take care.

I hope that you feel better and get the rest you need.

I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. You have inspired me to deepen my pantry considerably. We spent the day doing just that. It feels wonderful!!!

My husband is an engineer, we've moved A LOT and I homeschool my son. My only child.

When I read your blog I feel that your home must be very warm, cozy and inviting. I'll look forward to your return and my daily stop into your warm retreat!

Take care of yourself, Brenda. I know what it means to be uninsured, but remember, too, that God can handle anything. Joining others in prayer for your health. See you soon!

Take care of yourself Brenda. I love visiting your home. I understand about insurance as do so many. I have insurance for the hospital if admitted but with the high deductible and 20% up to a certain amount I would still be putting out a pretty penny. Scary times right now. Thanks for all your recession proofing. I take comfort in knowing I am not alone and your are one of my many helpers in that feeling. Thank you.

I am sorry to be posting again but I did not want to be anonymous. I thought I had put in my name. Now we know why I don't blog yet, I have to learn how to post first. Ha Ha
Please get well quick, I miss when you don't post.

Brenda, I hope you are feeling better today. Have you tried Byetta yet? I think it has changed my life. My bg levels hover right around 100 all the time now. I still take the long lasting insulin but supplement with the Byetta. I have insurance and I still can't believe how expensive everything is. $100. on Friday just for needles, test strips and insulin. No wonder there are so many non-compliant diabetics. Take care of yourself!!

Oh Brenda - how scary! I am glad you are alright and taking care of yourself! Do enjoy the first days of fall from your couch and we will be praying for your quick healing and an enjoyable time of rest. Sometimes the Lord sets us aside with poor health for just a little bit so that we are in just the right place to hear that still small voice that can't always be heard when we're off and running. Do take time to listen for a special message of love from your Heavenly Father! Take care sweet friend!

My husband is a diabetic and I know how scary it can be. I hate it when he does not eat properly or on time. I am praying for you. I understand about the insurance. We have been there also. Blessings, ginny

Still praying for you Brenda. BTW, I take byetta and it's good, but not indicated I think for type 1 diabetes.......You should perhaps go to the hospital regardless of insurance. Your life is more important than money. You know that...........I hope you can rest and read and be peaceful while you regain your strength.

Something has to be done to help the uninsured, underinsured and working poor.
There is NO reason anyone in this great country should not have AFFORDABLE health care.

After my husband's death, I had to get my own health insurance. I make 15.00 an hour and pay 600.00 a month for health insurance. (that doesn't include my kids)That is a weeks pay. They denied cheaper coverage because my Dr. prescribed prozac after my husband died unexpectedly. I took it for 60 days.
They said I was a risk for depression.
My husband just died, yeah I was depressed.
I often wonder how the insurance executives sleep.
I guess I need to pray that they don't.
Sorry, but you need more than God's help here. You need a Dr.s help and it's a shame you can't get it.
