Misery, books, and daisies

I was hoping I was getting over this toothache I've had for a few days. Instead it seems to have turned into a full fledged infection so I would appreciate your prayers. I soaked my mouth off and on in hot salt water (which has worked before but it tastes dreadful), rubbed Deep Heat on that side of my neck, and have been heavily drugged with Migraine Strength Excedrin and Benedryl.

Hehehe, hubby bent over to give me a kiss on the cheek this evening and I warned him there was cream there. It wasn't until I told him it was Deep Heat (actually the Wal Mart brand of same) that he was going blech, blech. I tried to warn him.

So... besides the sore shoulder and arm there is now a sore tooth and cream rubbed into my feet because the doctor tells me my feet are dangerously dry. Sheesh. I'm going to enjoy perfection someday. It's hard to believe I was rarely sick (except difficult pregnancies and Midwest sinus pain!) :)

I've made my way through ALL the comments in my Inbox (over 200, how did I let it get that many) and about half my e-mails. I always enjoy getting e-mails at the address on the sidebar so feel free to type away and don't pay any attention to my whining about having to answer them. It's not your e-mails, it is me getting behind that I'm muttering about.

There is nothing like reading your lovely comments to make me feel better. I also received some fabulous gifts! (L., you wrote that you hadn't heard from me. I did write you so e-mail me if you didn't get it. Hotmail was acting really strange today.)

Okay, my birthday is July 28th. I've always loved July. I suppose as a child it was exciting because the 4th was special when my dad was still alive and my mom always made birthdays amazing. Back then the heat and humidity didn't bother me in the least. But it is also such a beautiful time of year where I live... so green and lush, before the corn starts drying in the fields and the autumn colors (which I also love) begin to take over.

I wanted to get married in June but hubby wouldn't go for it. The local paper always printed the ages and he didn't want it to show a 27 yr old was marrying a 19 yr old so we waited until August and were married the last weekend it would be possible to take a honeymoon and get back before his classes started (he was working on his Master's Degree at the time). That way it showed he was marrying a much more mature 20 yr old. Ya' have to learn how engineers think.

I had been on the sofa part of today except for time spent here at the computer and fixing dinner. I had two packages of chicken which had been defrosted and I decided we were having fried chicken, no matter the pounding in my head. I did "cheat" and use instant potatoes again (although this brand is very good), a jar of... gaak... gravy, which I'd purchased for such a time as this, and a can of green beans... nuked. The guys kept talking about how good the food was. Of course, my Kentucky born and bred mother would have said anything tastes good with fried chicken. Now, I only wish Merry Maids would pop in overnight and clean the kitchen. Other than getting the coffee pot ready for in the morning, I'm not touching those dishes (although hubby did rinse most of them for me).

So now, I have a few books on the bed as well as a cat waiting for me. You know the kind of books, those you pull off the shelf because they require no thinking whatsoever. Let's see, there is It's About Home by Patsy Clairmont and Welcome Home by Emilie Barnes (purchased for $1.00 at a book sale as I gave Stephanie my original copy).

I also have one of my recent library cookbooks in the stack... Buttercup Bakes at Home by Jennifer Appel. Oh, the recipes she has in that book... my blood sugar will go up just reading it but it's worth it.

So I take leave of you now as I get ready to move the Fluffy One and do some reading. I don't feel like tea tonight (gasp!!!). Instead I'll take one of Christopher's bottled waters with me to my room, the water he usually puts in his gym bag when he works out (purchased at Wal Mart cheap instead of the $1.75 price there).

I feel a bit like Kathleen in You've Got Mail in that wonderful scene where she has a cold and Joe Fox stops by with flowers. All I want to do is suffer alone and in silence. However, daisies would be nice (my bridesmaids wore yellow dresses with daisies on them and carried daisies... hey, it was the 1970s!).

I hope you are feeling better soon, Brenda. A good friend has a tooth ache as well --- and she hasn't been receiving relief from pain meds. What has helped has been a little 'patch' that she bought at WalMart that has a numbing agent in it. It's not made specifically for teeth, but it sure works. She sticks it onto her cheek near the hurting tooth. Maybe it would help you too? I don't know the name of the product, sorry, but the pharmacist or a clerk in that department may be able to assist you.

I hope you feel better soon, Brenda. I am just a couple of months older than you! But I was an aged 21 when I got married. My husband was 33, so just imagine what people would have said if they had printed our ages in the paper back then!

I do hope you feel better soon. That's such an awful feeling. I too did have daises at my wedding and the girls wore white and yellow dresses. the year, 1977!!! They were popular back then. Tracey

Brenda, I'm praying that you will feel better soon. Misery is not fun!

BTW, my hubby and I are 8 years apart. I was 19, he was 27. We have been married 34 years. I will be 54 in October. Not only do you and I have similar 'numbers' but I always feel like we are kindred spirits.

Rest and be well, friend.

"Daisies are such friendly flowers; don't you think?"

I adore that movie! I also got around to watching the original...equally as nice.

May I send you some cyber daisies?

Rest well and I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you are feeling bad. I pray you will be all better soon. I had to smile when you said you had daisies at your wedding. I did too. My matron of honor had a yellow dress and there you go. I'm older than you and it was the 60's.
Just relax and take it easy. You are always working so hard and now you feel bad so you have permission to chill. Try putting vanilla on the sore tooth with a cotton ball. It's supposed to help. Take care. Love ya, Trish

I haven't made fried chicken in ages and you're right, it tastes great with anything, even instant potatoes and canned green beans! :o)

So sorry to learn you have a hurt tooth - lifting you up in prayer for a quick solution.

Happy birthday, a few days early.
Happy anniversay, even more than a few days early!

Brenda, as the daughter of a dentist and as a diabetic, I would really encourage you to get to a dentist as soon as possible. The kind of tooth ache you are having strongly suggests an infection which will affect all your health, all of it. Go soon, regardless of the expense. This is your life.

Shoot! Hate reading that you're under the weather. Having just been through the toothache thing, I can tell you that a little vanilla (the real deal) dabbed on the tooth will help until you get it seen to.

Wish we could all come in and clean and cook for you; in the meantime, I'll pray that somebody takes up the slack while you're resting.

Hope you're feeling better. That's a cute story about the wedding ages. When I worked for a country newspaper we always printed the recent marriage licenses. One day a young man came in to speak to the editor to beg him not to print any information about his and his bride's license. It seems everyone already thought they were married -- that was before living together had gotten so common(excuse the pun) -- and he didn't want people to know that they weren't. I don't remember the outcome, but thinking back about my editor, I guess the young guy had a lot of explaining to do after the paper came out.
