Homeschool transcripts and me

I'm feeling a little stronger each day and I highly suspect once I finish the antibiotics, there will be a noticeable improvement. I was in a store yesterday and the person checking me out commented on how much weight I had lost. Yes, not being able to eat certainly had side benefits. I probably took off five or ten pounds. Of course, that will come back as soon as I eat three meals in one day.

The guys finally had a home cooked meal last night. You'd have thought the goulash was a four star treat. Each went back for seconds. I suppose when all that has been available is cheese and crackers or canned soup, it was delicious. I love the smell of green peppers and onions cooking with the ground beef. It was good to have real cooking aromas coming from the kitchen again.

Christopher had taken a few items out to the car recently and walked back in the house smiling. He asked what it meant when the backseat has in it... an electric guitar, a paintball gun, boxing gloves, and a copy of Mere Christianity. I told him it most likely meant the driver was a homeschooler (or in this case, previous homeschooler). The guitar and paintball gun were borrowed, the boxing gloves and book are his.

That's one of the things I liked about homeschooling... the way we had the time to develop all kinds of interests as well as go down those "rabbit trails". He's certainly not afraid to try new things.

Speaking of homeschooling and all, I will be spending this afternoon and probably most of tomorrow putting together another high school transcript for him. The community college won't let him declare a major without it. Uh, yes... this is the same college where he has taken classes for 2 1/2 years (a full time student last year). This is also the same college where he holds a 3.75 grade point average.

Since all of that information is located somewhere in the now deceased hard drive, nothing short of a Vulcan mind meld will retrieve it. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the situation and getting a wee bit stressed over it. Finally I realized the transcript doesn't have to be perfect... just enough.

I guess I do have a bit of an attitude about them holding onto this requirement. I told Christopher this morning that I was going to overwhelm them with information. Since we used a literature based self made curriculum (including Sonlight and Cornerstone Curriculum materials from time to time), I will make as thorough a list as possible for them of books read and materials used. Let them eat cake (or their textbooks). Sigh... I'm coming off of a narcotic so I can't be held responsible for my annoyance can I? God... can I get away with it just this once?

It's good to "hear" you sounding a bit perkier today. The college situation would drive me nuts, too; but we homeschoolers have learned to do what is necessary for our kids. That transcript will be done before you know it.

I am so glad you are feeling better - those antibiotic do their job but really carry a huge weight of miserable side effects for sure! There are some experts that can retrieve things from dead hard drives - for a price! I recently heard of some vandalism that resulted in the records for an entire student body to be 'lost' in a burnt out principles office - the bad students were delighted - the good, dismayed! Some expert was able to retrieve the vast majority even though the computers were totally melted in the fire! At least you only have one student's transcript to re-create! I'll be praying for you!

What an unreasonable request on their part, Brenda. Used to be that if a student could pass a college English course and a college math course then it was considered enough to say that that scholar had succeeded in homeschooling. May the Lord bring everything to mind that will be of importance.

Glad that you're feeling better every day...getting to eat again will be a big help even if you're still on those nasty antibiotics.

Continue to take good care...
