Teenage boys are hysterical... at least mine is

Christopher arrived home from classes yesterday and I asked him how his first day back at the gym went (he decided he needs to get back into shape and still had a gym membership from taking tennis classes last autumn). He had a rather sheepish look on his face, I should have known this was going to be good.

He said it was just him and... thirty University women... the soccer team to be exact. I told him that was some way to meet girls. He then went on to describe in detail what it was like to attempt to bench press what he used to last fall. The girls had to rescue him... twice.

I told him I expected they thought he was just "as cute as can be" (girls really like him). Believe me, the thought of thirty plus college girls helping one eighteen year old guy who was stuck under barbells is so funny, I am still laughing.

He told one of his best friends about it last night. Do you know what he said? "I expect they thought you were really cute". Was I right or what? When he was leaving the gym, the girl behind the desk said she had a lot of people telling her they missed him, wondering where he was. They were all girls. :)

Then... last night... as I was watching the Dove Awards on TV... my cell phone rings. I'm going to try to recreate the conversation...

Mom?

Are you on your way home?

Well... yes... but... I forgot where I put the car and I'm a little lost.

You can't find the car?

Um... I forgot which parking garage I put it in.

How does one forget a parking garage downtown... this isn't a huge city?

No answer... just breathing as he is walking toward where he thinks it is... then... I'm pretty sure I parked at the garage by the police station.

Were you on the one way street going away from the river or toward it?

Ummm.... I forget.

Oh, I think I see the parking garage now. Yes, there is our car. I can tell it is ours because it is the only one with tape on the side of it (a long story...).

Is it the garage by the police station?

No...

How does one get the wrong parking garage again???

Well... I parked and then got lost as I was looking for the coffeehouse where John was playing and ended up on the wrong side of the Courthouse and... more breathing as he was walking fast... then running.

I've been watching too much late night TV... there are all kinds of creepy people around. Do you know how spooky it is here?

Yes, I don't like parking garages. I always think someone will jump out and grab me. Oh, maybe I shouldn't have told you that while you are walking in the garage right now.

It's okay, I am now in the car... with the doors locked. The only thing I'd stop for now is a guy with a gun. Forget that, I'd step on the gas and get the heck out of here. Will be home soon. Cell phone goes dead.

I kid you not, by this time I have forgotten what was on TV and I'm laughing so hard my husband is asking from the other room if I'm okay. There are those days that teenagers make one beat their head against a pillow in frustration. These days make up for those. :)

Too funny! I love both stories!!
He IS right about the parking garage thing, though! When I was 18 (teenager again) I worked at a bank and we parked in a garage right across the street. One night I went out to my car and it wouldn't start. I was stumped! Out of nowhere, this guy was there wanting to help me. I immediately put the hood down and ran for the stairs. When I got to the sidewalk believe it or not my father was driving by! Talking about God stepping in! He drove me up to my car and we found that someone had loosened some cables or something. Turns out the guy who was trying to "help" me had been doing this to other women's cars in order to meet women?! Yeah, right! So I don't park in garages anymore!

Take care!

This took me back a few years to when my kids were teens. My youngest is now 35! But we are always parents until the day we die. Thanks for the good laugh.
