What a wonderful world

What a Wonderful World

I see trees of green,
red roses too

I see them bloom for me and you

And I think to myself:
"What a wonderful world!"

I see skies of blue and clouds of white

The bright blessed day,
the dark sacred night

And I think to my self:
"What a wonderful world!"

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces of people going by

I see friends shaking hands saying "How do you do."

They really say: "I love you!"

I hear babies crying
I watch them grow

They'll learn much more than I'll ever know

And I think to myself:
"What a wonderful world!"
Yes, I think to myself:
"What a wonderful world!"
It's a beautiful world. :)

Ahhhh...Satchmo (Louis Armstrong)... I can hear the music now. I purchased a Christmas CD last year just because this song was on it. Lovely. When I hear music like this, I know why Heaven is filled with song.

Actually, when I was thinking of this music recently, it came with a warning to my own soul. Remember... it truly is a beautiful world. Life can be hard at times and when one is living with difficult circumstances, it is oh so easy to look on the dark side. Darth Vader has nothing on me at times folks. (Luke, Luke... I am your mother!) Oh, sorry for getting off track here.

My personality tends toward optimism but Life has shot it down quite often. Fortunately, our Lord allows nothing but a temporary blow with a stun gun as long as we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off... and keep going on toward the Promised Land. Let bitterness creep in and, well, one can truly live in darkness as the windows of our soul become dark and dusty until Light has a hard time shining through.

What better season to look for Beauty... and Hope... Faith... Love... the will to go on in the midst of trials and tribulations. The Book says we are to expect them and even give thanks for them. (I have yet to figure that one out, it is one of those "perhaps in Eternity" He will show me... or more likely... I won't care by that time.)

So, here's what I'm doing this autumn. I've decided to write down everything I see that makes my heart sing. From Pumpkin Spice Lattes (I get my $20.00 monthly allowance for Starbucks tomorrow, hallelujah!) to a hug from my honey.

Here are just a few this autumn day...

The colors of trees and bushes
Pumpkins and squash
Gorgeous mums in deep oranges, purples, reds, and rust
The lovely sounds of dulcimer music on Saturday morning
and
The interesting people and food at the Farmer's Market

Pictures of my grandchildren arriving by e-mail
Talks with my son and daughter
Days when my husband is feeling better
Amazing sermons in person and on the radio

Music, art, books (oh yes... let us not forget books)
Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate
Pumpkin cookies
Holiday flavors appearing in the grocery store

Blogs by like minded people with pretty pictures
(it doesn't matter the words are in a foreign language sometimes)
Blogs that show me I am not alone
Great Truth from old books written in a time long gone by
Old movies that make me sigh
Vintage magazines that remind me of a time gone by

Oh, my friends... that is just the beginning. I want to enter the Holiday season with Thanksgiving and not with a Scrooge-like attitude because life has been a little frustrating lately (okay a lot but you get the idea), it is all in the attitude and I choose one of thanksgiving for the beauty that is just the leftovers from Eden.

I know just the place to write down my list... see you later!

I always admire you so much for the wonderful things you post about. I always look forward to visiting.

This subject bring forth to mind a movie I watched years ago. It is called One True Thing starring Meryl Streep and Renee Zellweger. It is about a mother/daughter relationship where the daughter can't understand why her mother is always happy even when times are not. Her mother tries to show her that changing one's attitude can allow us to find happiness and be fulfilled and the importance of focusing on what you can truly control. Of course the rest of us know who controls the rest :)

It is a very thought provoking movie which I enjoyed very much. Anyhow, you have the same thought here and you might enjoy the movie...although I must warn you...it is kind of sad at the end but still provides a great message.

I have seen part of that movie. I need to see all of it the next time it is on.

I loved the message, too.

Oh thank you, Brenda. This is a lovely post. My day has been a bit blue around the edges but this sweet post caused me to pause and give thanks. (Now I feel positively lavender!) I am a new entrant to the world of blogdom, and I am still amazed at how beautiful and friendly it is. Thank you for keeping a friendly place in this big world. : )

What a beautiful post! We live in such an abundance of beauty. The trees go and rest for the winter. The leaves put on such a show. Oh, I just love this time of year.

Thank you for sharing. Hope you stop by for a visit.

Your list was beautiful! It made me think about some of my own things to be thankful about. Yes, the trials are not fun, but thank God that the cloudy days don't last forever. Great post!

"What a wonderful world!" This was the song our middle son and his wife choose, for their dance together, at their wedding reception. :-) So when I see or hear it, I think of them.

I love your writing and the images are equally as lovely. Music, reading, being thankful and the Grace of the Lord...such a kindred spirit. Looks like you are on your way to a beautiful Autumn. Blessings, Karen

Amen--and it is so wonderful to fill our hearts and minds with thanksgiving; it is so fun each day and all of the time to look for the things we can give thanks for. I love that song also--it is one of our family's favorites--even the kids!!!
