In praise of...pretty things

Guys don't get it but girls need pretty.

I love the picture of this room. In reality, it is a very rugged, manly kind of room. However, you know this guy is married. The background is male...the accessories are all woman.

I believe we all have within us, a bit of leftover Eden. It is evident in our love of "pretty". What is pretty is unique to each person but I think all of us like gardens, the only difference being to what extent. Do we admire flowers in a vase or do we take dominion over our own backyard and spend hours creating our own retreat from the world?

To me, pretty is...china and teacups, dutch lace, old silver, quilts, old books and new books, crystal dishes, stained glass, vintage linens, roses of all kinds, daises, lilacs, green plants throughout the house, music in the background.

Pretty is butter yellow, deep silver or delft blues, barn reds, hunter greens, moss greens, cream as a background to them all. Pretty is evergreen, sparkle, old ornaments, gingerbread hearts, red apples in silver bowls, and deep red velvet ribbons.

Pretty is the aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, lemon, orange, lilacs, roses, baby shampoo, new leather, woodsmoke, and...Tresor.

Pretty is the country after a snowfall, the forest on a summer morning with a mist covering the grass, cardinals in winter, a purple crocus shooting up through the snow, daylillies in July, corn ready to harvest, the farmer's market early in the morning, a perfect loaf of bread just out of the oven, tomatoes in August, a double rainbow and the eyes of anyone I love.

All taking me back to the Beginning...to Eden.

Just lovely and a good reminder to embrace that feminine aspect of ourselves and love beauty and soften the home with them
