Back to Dickens

I know it is rather late to be chatting about A Christmas Carol. However, I have been working on my notes for tomorrow's class I teach for our homeschool co-op. I realized to thoroughly appreciate Dickens, we needed to take our time reading through the book. So we will remain with A Christmas Carol the next few weeks. Then we return to our study of Christian Worldview.

Thus, I am printing off Stave Three in two parts (the first ten pages for tomorrow, the second ten for the next class). I got smart this time, printing both while I have plenty of printer ink. Twice I've had to rush to Kinkos before class and pay $6.00 to $12.00 just to print the needed materials because I ran out of printer ink.

I have been doing more research and came across a great site called Dickens For Dummies. He also recommends what I believe to be the best DVD version of A Christmas Carol, the one with Patrick Stewart. (My husband disagrees, he likes the version with George C. Scott the best). I have also recommended The Muppets version to my class for the same reason I have used The Message Bible (in addition to my NIV version) in Bible studies before. Sometimes it takes something quite different than the original to get us thinking out of the box. Anyway, I find Kermit cute.

This weekend I will be judging a debate tournament. I actually enjoy doing this as I find students who take part in speech and debate to be exceptional students (whether they homeschool or they do not). At the last tournament, we had professional judges (attorneys, politicians, business people, etc.); many of whom had not been around homeschoolers. They were all...to a person...impressed by those debaters. Come to think of it, so was I.

Thank you so much for the 'Dickens For Dummies' link. I admit, he sort of intimidates me. :-)
