Sunday Dinner Family Singing

Our church has an extended praise & worship time. One of the songs we sang this morning was an oldie, On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand. While it is a great song, it reminded me of one of my very favorites. I almost wore out a CD listening to this song over and over when going through an extreme trial. One of those trials you have to take one minute at a time. I thought it would be appropriate for my first Sunday Dinner Family Singing...and I promise to only hum softly.

The Anchor Holds

Words and music by Lawrence Chewning and Ray Boltz

I have journeyed
Through the long, dark night
Out on the open sea
By faith alone
Sight unknown
And yet His eyes were watching me

CHORUS:
The anchor holds
Though the ship is battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees
As I faced the raging seas
The anchor holds
In spite of the storm

Ive had visions
Ive had dreams
Ive even held them in my hand
But I never knew
They would slip right through
Like they were only grains of sand

CHORUS

I have been young
But I am older now
And there has been beauty
That these eyes have seen
But it was in the night
Through the storms of my life
Oh, thats where God proved
His love to me

This is my Husbands Favorite song. We dont hear it now as often as we used to, but whenever he hears it, he comments on how that song has brought him through some real storms in our lives!

I was watching a movie on TBN recently and they showed the video of this song!

I remember being on my knees and crying buckets of tears with this song playing in the background. I had the mental image of Christ as the anchor and me with my arms around his ankles holding on for dear life.

The anchor DID hold.
