I'm doing a little tweaking of the blog for 2016 and one change I'm making is to pull the "Reading" section out of "My World this Week" and making it a separate regular post. I'm thinking it will be once every few weeks. I am a fast reader but not that fast and I want to include a few items at a time.
I'll be making a Page for Recent Reading today. It will contain a link to take you to all the posts should you want to go back and look for a specific book or link. The Pages are located under the blog's header.
I thought you might enjoy a look at my recent magazine reading. One of my very favorite magazines, purchased with Christmas gift funds from a favorite person. Just enough to buy Bella Grace! ;)
So what I have I been reading in January?
This was actually read in December when Sally sent me the PDF file of the new book she and Sarah wrote together. It is not easy to read a PDF file but even then... this book was pure magic. Narnia magic.
I've told Sally for years that I'd love for her to write an "Edith Schaeffer" kind of book about making a home environment beautiful. However, now that I see how much better the book is with the mother-daughter writing, I'm glad she waited. This was the time to write it.
I will be doing an official book launch post in February (I think I'm scheduled for the 10th) but I couldn't wait to share this wonderful book. It is available for pre-order at a very good price. You may know that publishers care a lot about how pre-order success (I always have to remember it IS a business). The publish date is February 2nd.

I've been hearing good things about this book since it was published. There was more than one person who reviewed the book as a "must read for all Christians".
Basically, the premise of the book is our desire for Beauty comes from God Himself. That the Beauty we find here is a shadow of God's Beauty. That is why we are drawn to it and why need Beauty in all forms.
This is the book to give to the theologian in the family who needs to understand the love of Beauty is quite Scriptural. However, it is easy enough to read that the average former homeschool mom (being moi') enjoyed it very much.

I reviewed this book... here. Loved it!
I just started reading The Irrational Season, which is Book Three of The Crosswicks Journal series by Madeleine L'Engle. One of my all time favorite books is Book One of the series, titled A Circle of Quiet. I also enjoyed reading Book 2, titled The Summer of the Great-Grandmother.
This has been on my "To Read" list for a very long time and I am quite happy it is now my current nonfiction read.

Oh regular book talk! Hurray!
I have some gift money and I think I am going to preorder Sally and Sarah's book. It is just what I like, and what we have tried to do here in our home. I love books like this, and to be able to pass them along, especially to my married kids, and nieces and nephews' families!

your book reviews are always a welcome post..
i've discovered more than a few on your recommendation alone.
so big thank you's!
I did not know that Madeleine L'Engle wrote adult nonfiction. Intriguing. I bought one of the grands "A Wrinkle in Time" for Christmas. Actually, I am always learning here and am intrigued by the books you review. Have never heard of the periodical; it looks pretty!
I can't wait to get Sally's book! On my list to use some of the amazon money I got for Christmas. I know it's going to be absolutely fantastic!!!!! LOVED Eyes Wide Open!!! Headed up your way tomorrow for a funeral :( -- the pastor of our sister church up there just passed away from melanoma.
Yea, love getting book recommendations from you.
I looked up the magazine Bella Grace. Do you think it is worth the money? It looks lovely, but is pricey. Blessings, Amanda
Always so glad to see what you are reading. :)
Loved all those Madeleine L'Engle books. She was an amazing writer.
Have you seen this reading challenge (below)? It is really a fun one. The author is a pastor and also a reader. He challenges you to read books from all kinds of different categories throughout the year. I am having fun with it and being stretched to read stuff I wouldn't ordinarily read. I thought I'd pass it on to you as you are another voracious reader :)
