Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook, a review

I have friends who have had a great deal of success on the Trim Healthy Mama plan to lose weight and become healthier.  So I was interested in the cookbook that has come out to be used with the plan.

The cookbook is written by sisters Pearl Barrett and Serene Allison.  Above Rubies magazine readers may recognize the name as we saw these two young women grow up through the years.

I thoroughly enjoyed the good natured bantering between the sisters.  Especially as one sister eats more "pure foods" than the other.  In many of the recipes, options are given for those who want to make the more "pure" option of the recipe.  However, all the recipes are healthy options.

In many (if not most) of the recipes, instructions are given to make three different serving sizes.  There is a Single Serve, a Family Serve, and where there is the option... a Multiple Serve.

I found it to be full of good recipes and photos of many of the dishes.  The font is easy to read and the recipes have good instructions.  I love that there is an index of the recipes in the front of each section of the book, making it very easy when you want to locate a specific recipe.

The only caveat I would give is that the recipes often call for special ingredients that would most likely not be in the pantry of the average person.  However, they would be familiar to people following the plan.

The sections of the cookbook are:
  • One-Pot Meals
  • Hearty Mains and Sides
  • Sunrise Eats
  • Sweet Treats
  • Beverages
  • All Things Smooth and Crunchy

I highly recommend this cookbook, especially for people who are following the Trim Healthy Mama Plan or those interested in it.

This book was sent to me by Blogging For Books for the purpose of review but the opinions are my own.

I am one of those who've had good success with this plan! I just got the cookbook as well, and am happy with the styling and easy to follow directions.

So far I've only made one thing from the book but it was a treat and it was really good!

Hmmmm...perhaps I should familiarize myself with this recipe book based on both your and Deanna's recommendation.

I remember those girls growing up when I used to read Above Rubies when my children were little. I remember they were promoting using coconut oil long before it became popular like it is today.
