Ready for guests... |
The forest is beautiful at this time of year, even if it can be spooky walking down the gravel lane and not being able to see very far into the brush that has grown so high. I probably shouldn't watch Finding Bigfoot. ;)
So... here is some of what is happening in my world through the lens of a camera.
Reading
Working my way through a stack of books. My nonfiction re-read this week was Forever Music by Edith Schaeffer, perhaps her least known book. It was written after her husband's death. This is the paperback version.
Mollie Makes Crochet is there to choose a project from very soon. It's fabulous and has lots of projects that are easy. Mollie Makes is one of the British magazines I peruse through at Barnes & Noble when I'm in that part of the county.
I will review Woman of Courage during the week it is to be reviewed on blogs but I can tell you it is very, very good. A great book to take on vacation. My husband is reading it now and is enjoying it, too.
Watching
Have you watched the new Father Brown mysteries on PBS? I've seen a couple episodes now and they are really good. The actor who plays Father Brown does so just as the books portray him.
Surprise!
I went to the kitchen to get something we needed and this is what awaited upon my return...
Beauty
Bee balm in full flower...
Resting
Using the good stuff
I needed new kitchen towels (aka: tea towels) but they were not in the budget so I decided to use the pretty stuff. There are about four beautiful towels I have received as gifts that I only displayed, three are now being used and enjoyed.
The one I didn't use was a gift from Stephanie that is finely embroidered. It will be saved for tea parties.
Baking
This has become a go-to dessert when I have five packages of cream cheese to use. Fortunately, Kroger had a 10 for $10 sale a few weeks ago and I bought five packages at the time.
Everyone loves this cheesecake and it is so easy to make. Not to mention it gets better the next day and my husband thinks it is better two days later... but it rarely lasts that long. ;)
Recipe... here. I also made the lemon blueberry sauce, recipe... here.
Her Fluffiness
All I did was lay my garden basket down until I could take it out to the front porch to shake clean....

I love your bookcase and your reading area. So cozy. Thanks for sharing your lovely home. It is so nice and homey. Glad your week is going well. Enjoy your 4th of July!
You're having a great summer!
I say 'yes!' Use the good stuff! I am going to surprise my husband with that cheesecake soon!
Her royal fluffiness is a clever girl!

Your living room is so appropriate for this week with the patriotic touches. Love how neat and pretty it is. And your pretty table all dressed for company. Glad you are feeling up to preparing for guests, and also getting needed outside work done. Please don't overdo as our tendency is when we are feeling better. Happy 4th!
Blessings, Sharon D.
Would love to hear what you think of Forever Music....interesting title and I'm always looking for a new one to bring to our book club. Great photos and I can't wait to try your recipe! Vickie
Your world is filled with goodness and beauty! I love all the "my world this week" photos....
Forgot to say how much I enjoy the Mark Williams acting in the Father Brown series....You know he was Ron Weasley's father in the Harry Potter movies, don't you? A very accomplished actor.
I love the "resting" photo...clever to show your feet up, hehe. I say yes, use the good stuff. I mean, what are we saving pretty things for, if not to make our everyday lives a little more beautiful? Love the bee balm! Is it deer resistant? Wishing you and all your readers a happy, fun Fourth of July holiday!
Where are you finding the Father Brown shows? On the PBS website or on Netflix/Amazon? Thanks!
I haven't seen a lace cloth like that used in years. So nice to see this evening! Lovely post...I enjoyed it so much at the end of a hard day. Thank you.
I have not heard of or read that Edith SChaeffer book so have ordered it from the library....sounds good! Hasn't this weather been glorious!!!!
Your bee balm is thriving beautifully. A humming bird likes to visit our red bee balm.
I have one or two tea towels that I save "for best" or for when I could use a little lift, for instance, so I could relate to the summer addition to your kitchen.
I like the ring of ivy on your plates.
A wing chair and a book make a congenial couple.
I love reading your blog! I am admiring your pretty china with the leaf pattern - could you share who makes it? I'd love to see if I could find a few pieces since they would dress up my green dishes.
Love the fancy tea towels. I just bought a pretty new set with flowers from Ikea and plan to use them too!
