A 4th of July break

Happy Birthday, America!

We woke up to a chilly 4th of July, it was only 51 degrees.  Remarkable... it is usually blazing hot and humid at this time of year. Oh, the heat is only taking a temporary holiday vacation so I'm going to enjoy the weather while it lasts.

I love the 4th of July, it has always been a favorite holiday.  To make it even more special, our wonderful firecracker Faith was born on the 4th.

While we love all of our grandchildren very much, Faith is the apple of her Granddad's eye.  Those two have a special bond, probably because both remind us a lot of Tigger.  :)

I was on my way to Meijers after dinner yesterday when the phone rang and it was my son telling me that 1) they were in crisis mode because the mortgage company was still holding up their house closing, and 2) they had to be out of their apartment on Monday.

So they have made quick arrangements with friends to temporarily store their furniture in their garage and shed.  Other boxes will make their way to my Study.  Since it WAS Christopher's former room and all... I said that was fine.  They will live with friends until this all gets settled.

I have heard nightmare stories about people trying to get mortgages these days and now it is getting personal.

However, his news that affected my weekend... he had forgotten to tell me that our 4th of July party (which had to be moved to the 5th due to schedules) is now going to be an... event.  With people coming who have never been here before and not just Mrs. Christopher's family.

Yes, that does change things.  Now I have to really clean.  First impressions and all.  Actually, the house looks fine and it will need minor washing and polishing.  But the yard... oh, my... and the front porch?  No way am I going to have first time visitors see it in that condition!

All that to say... I won't be around this weekend.  Between cleaning and cooking and hosting for Saturday and helping move on Sunday, there will be no time to write!

So I will return on Monday or Tuesday.

Enjoy your 4th (and a belated Canada Day to my Canadian friends).

What's that boy trying to do to you?! LOL! Pace yourself. Hope that he and the Mrs. show up to help as well. Enjoy the party! (How wonderful that it is so cool since you will be so busy today.)

I am sorry for the extra stresses that have come your way this week, Brenda, and hope that the extra work on that front porch will mean you have it lovely to enjoy for the rest of the summer!

Relax (as much as possible). Remember people won't remember your house as much as how you made them feel.(Think about one of our favorite books: Bread and Wine)!
