Answering a few questions...

Ummm... that is a teabag floating in the cup.  :)

Thank you for the kind words about my house, I am a believer that one can have a lovely home on a very tight budget. But it takes thinking of our house as a canvas and activities such as searching Goodwill, thrift stores, and garage sales as the work of an artist.  :)

I'm going to write more about the "weather" here but we did not come through it unscathed.  We're in damage control status as I write.

Added:  Thank you very much to whomever sent me an anonymous gift "card" to Amazon through e-mail.  It was VERY much appreciated.

Here are some answers to recent questions:

The teacup (shown above) is one of a series Starbucks sold years ago, both Holiday and non-Holiday designs.  I love those cups and I was disappointed when they switched to another design. This one was purchased at the antique mall for a couple of dollars.

Yes, one of the DVDs is a sweet Christmas movie starring Olivia Newton John called  A Christmas Romance.  It's kinda dorky in a good way, about a banker learning the importance of simplicity.  I like the way the Olivia Newton John character tries to keep her home by using skills like baking.

The flowers on the sideboard cabinet are actually silk.  They look very real.  I don't care what professional designers say about using silk and dried flowers, I like them so I use them.  And they are mostly found on the cheap while thrifting.

Kristi, I will forever be thankful for the Old British Castles brown transferware you gave me!  Just love them and I think of your family when I use them.  Were they your mother's or your grandmother's dishes?

Well, it appears you can access the Granny Miller blog again without finding rotten SPAM.  I have added it back to the sidebar.  But this is not the Wordpress address we were originally suppose to link to when she quit blogging.  The Wordpress site has been deleted, I expect due to someone hacking it.  Also, there is a recent post.  I am confused...

Miss Victoria can use your prayers, her paw is very sore again and causing her to limp.  This is an "on again-off again" situation so it is time to once again visit Dr. Lisa.

Oh, someone had left a comment about the very large picture in the Header and how it made the blog look ugly.  That is the default size on Blogger and I lost all the headers I designed to be smaller when my laptop crashed.  I hope the picture does not keep you from reading further!  I'm rather fond of that river...

I hope to write more about our storm experience on Saturday!

Sorry you had a challenge accompanying the weather! My husband found the drain (probably) had frozen in the church kitchen when he went to study yesterday. Water was all over the floor AND there was a bird in the sanctuary!

I agree about artificial flowers, by the way. Perfectly happy with several "bouquets" in our home.

Happy Thursday. Make it a good one!

Your teacup and the tea bag in it are pretty, and I hope you come through the stormy weather in good shape. How sweet to receive an anonymous gift plus the other gift of china.

Oh-oh. That sounds ominous. Our car is on the fritz and that scares me to pieces and , yet, I ask myself why because The Lord has always taken care of us and I know that He has always take care of you! Not in the way we might have planned...better!

True confessions...I stole the river...just for me to look at in my little favorite blogs folder. It kind of reminded me of my ancestor's story.

I have a silk flower arrangement going, too. It adds color and cheer and costs nothing.

I like your river picture. It reminds me of the times my husband and I spent cruising in our canoe on rivers near our home in the Boston area ... now many years ago. Our blogs are our individual design and should reflect what we want them to say. I would read your blog even if there were NO pictures!

I really like the picture in your header. It's very pretty. It reminds me of a painting my grandmother did many years ago.

Sorry for your weather-related troubles. I hope they can be taken care of quickly and without too much hassle or discomfort.

I'm sorry you lost your other header photos but I like the peaceful river, creek, whatever--looks like a good place to go swimming on a hot summer day. (It will come). Your words are the main thing to me--love your gift of putting words together. Love how you teach us to have a beautiful home with very low budget. Blessings, Sharon D.

I love the picture! It reminds me of a scene in the movie "Last of the Mohicans" which is one of my favorites.
I also use silk flowers and have had some for many years. They are easy to find in clearance - I bought my poinsettia garlands for .90 years ago at Michaels. Stay cozy, dee

So sorry to hear that the weather has caused you some damage. I hope it's all easily and inexpensively repairable.

Silk flowers are a mainstay here! I love having them out at various times of the year, and I love when a guest leans in to sniff thinking they're real!

I like the river picture. Gives us something summery to look at when it's freezing outside.

Ignore whoever said it made your blog look ugly. It does not! I like the size of the photo too!

Sorry to hear about the weather related issue and trust that God has gone before you to supply what is needed.

Sorry to hear about Victoria too. Poor kitty. Hope her paw is better soon.

Hi Brenda;
I too love the river picture, it is serene in a troubled world. I too am a silk flower person. You can change colors with the changing seasons and a new bouquet makes everything look bright and new. Hope Miss Victoria's paw heals nicely without a visit to Dr.Lisa. Keep warm, drink lots of hot tea and/or coffee. Love and Hugs, Nana.

The river photo is nice, but you took some Beautiful snow scene photos that would look charming on your header! Just a thought! I love snow and we've only had one snowfall so far this winter. I realize you and everyone else in your part of the country are probably sick of it by now! Hope Miss Victoria's paw is nothing serious and gets better soon! And you recover from the storm without too much trouble. Thanks for sharing and answering questions!
Blessings,
Laura C. from WA

Oh, Brenda, I am so glad you enjoy the British Castle dishes which were my grandmother's. I love them, but have too many dishes! And sadly, neither of my daughters like the rather old-fashioned style I do. But we don't all have to like the same things......Maybe someday Andy will marry someone who does like this style. Who knows? Not me.........
But I wanted them to have a good home and be appreciated and I know that has been accomplished! Thank you!

Brrrr it sounds cold there!!! :) I wrote Granny Miller the day I saw about the problem at her site here. She said she deleted the Wordpress one cause it did not do as she hoped. that is it would not archive her site is I believe how she put it. She herself delete it and then put her old blog back up. She did recently add a new post about how to keep animals from freezing but does not I believe intend to keep adding new posts. From what I take it she said in her e-mail she may not forever keep this old site up. No idea as it is up to her. She shows an e-mail and an address on her site under the contact information at the top of her blog. I wrote and she wrote back right away. She just wanted to move on to do other things than blog. As I said I have no idea how long this granny-miller blog will be up...maybe forever maybe not. We will just have to see. I know many of us wish she could keep it up forever just as an archive so we can use it for reference that I do not see any where else. Sarah

So many places are suffering from the effects of bad weather. Here in the UK some areas are totally flooded out and the coastline of Wales and South West England have really been battered. I hope you are able to take care of your weather damage and are protected from any further damage.

Your tea cup is so pretty and I rather like your big header...the header on my blog is rather large too. :)

It was good to see a blog post up from your daughter. I'm sure she is so excited about the wonderful Christmas present they came up with for your family!
