Thinking of marathon movie days...

I hope to download pictures tomorrow morning so I can post a My World this Week.  Otherwise it will not happen.  Somehow I completely forgot to mention here that I have eye surgery on Friday.

I'm losing my insurance due to Obamacare so my retinal specialist wants to perform the surgery on my right eye that he has been putting off.  The problem area is immediately next to my line of sight.  Ummm... pray for him to have a steady hand!

There may or may not be any weekend posts, according to how soon I recover from the surgery.

So what does that have to do with marathon video sessions?  Nothing except that is what I plan to do while recovering.  I checked Babylon 5, Season 3, Episodes 1-4 from the library.  I also have a Last of the Summer Wine season that I have watched before so it will be enjoyable even if I can't really see it.

I was watching one of the early morning news shows when they said Sir Anthony Hopkins (loved him in Shadowlands) had a marathon binge of Breaking Bad, watching all of the episodes over two weeks.  Which led to a discussion among the hosts about marathon movie or TV events in their own life.

As for us, I recall many a Thanksgiving when we watched all three of the original Star Wars movies.  That was 1) before there were more Star Wars movies and 2) when one had to depend on what the TV stations were showing for their viewing pleasure.  Video was around but not as accessible for home purchase as the DVDs are today.

Among other marathon sessions I can recall in our home have been Pride & Prejudice (A&E version) with Stephanie and Top Gear with Christopher (the BBC show about cars).  Oh yeah, and Finding Bigfoot but that was all alone as no one in my family understands why I find it so amusing.

There have been other marathon TV and film days throughout the years, usually when the weather turns cold and blustery.  Even a bibliophile can have fond memories of coming together as a family to watch favorite movies or episodes of favorite TV shows.  :)

By the way, I have never watched Breaking Bad although the week of the finale my son stopped by to return his dad's golf shoes.  He walked in the house smiling, asking if we realized our van looked like a mobile meth lab with all the pails and hoses in the back.

They were actually there due to the handyman projects Hubby had been working on and I'd found them rather annoying when I tried to find somewhere to place groceries.  But I noticed it was all cleaned up within days of Christopher's comment, especially when he said the timing of the finale had a lot of people thinking of meth labs and if they were to see our van... well.

Hahahahaha...such a funny story. We don't share all the same loves, but I do enjoy a marathon every now and then!

Praying for a good result with your surgery. Don't rush anything...just take it easy.

Dearest Brenda,

Just popping to say Hello...I have been terribly absent from the blogsphere this summer. Hope to be back to normal now that it is Fall.

I will indeed pray for you my sweet friend! So sorry you have to have the surgery.

We are loving a new (to us) show on Discovery... Alaska, the Last Frontier. It is actually in it's third season and Discovery has been running marathons of this delightful show these last weeks. Love it when channels do that.

Blessings sent your way,
Shan

About your insurance, surely with your low income, you qualify for a subsidy??

Prayers for a successful eye surgery for you. Obamacare is impacting many working people in a negative way, raising the premiums for many working people I know.
We don't do marathons at our house but have eclectic tastes like you. Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey and Walking Dead sure keep our attention.

Praying for your surgery! Steady hands, please! Lord!

I like movie marathons - its usually Jane Austen or Lord of The Rings. It's fun to do it with the family!

We don't have tv - we just have Netflix and also find other things online to watch. We love BBC shows, too.

I'll have to see if I can find your Bigfoot show - just to check it out!

Brenda - a quick message to say that I love reading your blog posts. I have many blogs that I like to visit but don't always have the time, yours I visit regularly, just to keep in touch!

Isn't it wonderful that even though I'm in Africa and you're VERY far away - I'll be able to pray for you and the 'stead surgeon' on Friday.

Much love from Isabel (Cape Town - South Africa).

Will be keeping you in our thoughts! Hope your surgery goes well.

(and gosh silly me, I was against Obamacare until I realized it would probably help folks like you...Oh that's right, silly me.)

I hope your surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery! Aren't you eligible to buy healthcare coverage due to the Affordable Healthcare Act and get the cost subsidized by the government?

We've had Godfather movie marathons and we just had a Mission Impossible one last Saturday!

First things first, praying for your surgery, and for your health insurance situation. I'm hearing far too many stories of folks who I *thought* the ACA was supposed to help, who are instead being hit with steep increases in their premiums. Not good.

Eclectic movie/TV show watchers can sure have fun! We were slow to get on the Breaking Bad bandwagon, and now have to wait, impatiently, for those last few episodes to release on Netflix. Every New Year's Eve we start a marathon of either the LOTR movies or the Harry Potter series. We were just commenting that our LOTR marathons will be getting longer as we'll surely add in The Hobbit movies to the start of the marathon, as they're released.
