My World this Week

I moved the vintage pie carrier back to the stack of vintage baskets, at least for now...
Whew, I wasn't sure I'd get a post in this week!  Like so many who are wrapping up their garden, it was a busy week.  It feels good to accomplish everyday and seasonal tasks even if it is a little at a time.

Speaking of which, thank you to all who have hung in there with me as I've experienced computer and health issues.  I want to comment on other blogs but it isn't always possible at the moment.

It has been incredibly hot and humid for this time of year but the cold front has come through and I awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of falling rain!  So good after such a long dry spell.

So... what has been happening in my World?

Watching

When Christopher was six years old, he went through a phase where he wanted to be a tornado chaser.  His Christmas gifts that year included a Weather Channel calendar, a video about a famous Weather Channel storm chaser, and a big book about weather facts.  I think he still has the book.

That was also the year Twister came out.  His sister and I took him to see the movie at the theater... during a Tornado Watch!  Talk about realism.  It is still one of our favorite movies but I watch it on TV where they have taken out the bad language.

I watched it again this week and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the parts that have become part of our family vocabulary.  Like... "Bob's road".  ;)

Seasonal Tweaking

I love this old wooden bowl inherited from my mother-in-law.

It has a flat base so it is perfect for holding seasonal stuff and candles.

From the Farm

Hubby ran into the organic farmer at church Sunday morning.  He told him to come out to the farm later in the day as he had a lot of veggies available.

The above picture shows only the veggies I washed immediately (the lemon verbena was from my own garden).  I later cleaned a lot of corn, which has declined in quality with the heat and drought.

But there was still a lot of good corn to eat and we threw the cobs that were substandard (for humans) out to the forest where I am certain they provided yummy snacks for the squirrels.

What a blessing his helping the farmer out has been for all of us.

Her Fluffiness
Pretty kitty... :)

Reading:  I have no pictures of my reading this week... mostly a stack of long ago (1990s) Victoria magazines I pulled out of the vintage suitcases where I keep them.

Decaf Candy Cane Lane tea (or apple cider K-cups) and Victoria were what I needed this week.  My head is still stuffy and I'm still a tad on the weak side after weeks on the sofa.  But on the mend!

I have a lot of garden work to do when we get back from Florida.

I bought a Susan Branch calendar for 2014 at Costco the other day - but it is too small for my calendar holder. May I send it to you? It is delightful, and I hope you don't have one yet.

Have a good weekend!

Such a nice bounty from the farmer...love the colors of those peppers. Glad that the cooler weather has come in. Feel better! The high dry weather probably will help with that.

Glad you're feeling better.

We like eggplant diced small and added to spaghetti sauce. Can get away with using less meat that way.

I'm surprised at your favorite movie! But then I remembered that folks are surprised at one of my favorite movies! And I like surprises, don't you?

Brenda,
I am intrigued by the vintage pie carrier. I am guessing that it is the red one? I love to bake pies and taking them places is always an issue. I am wondering if the carrier has any type of compartment inside in which to separate and hold the pies? If so, would you show the inside? I sincerely hope that you continue to feel better! Bonnie

Your world is beautiful! I am reading A Fine Romance which I would not have known about if you had not written about it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!......It was just wonderful that your husband and the older farmer made this arrangement. It helps everyone! And though I enjoyed your book selection I think I will give Twister a pass!

Hi Brenda;
I love the fresh veggies, what a great blessing to have a farmer friend! Your home is so well decorated, it is very restful. Wish I could say the same about mine, lol. Have a great evening! Love and Hugs, Nana.
P.S. I also love the movie Twister!!

I love Twister too and living in the Midwest makes it even more real! Thank you for your Sept 11 post. I spent some time watching footage on youtube and the feelings do confusion and uncertainty washed over me again. We live near a major airport and never will forget the many planes filling the sky as they landed. Then for days there were only fighter jets taking off. I had a good cry and prayed. We must never forget. Dee
