Recovering well...

I'm almost recovered now with just the slightest of fuzzy vision in my left eye.  I can finally READ!

One of my dear friends had been through the surgery before and had told me what to expect.  Even then I was surprised when it took 1 1/2  hours to prepare for the surgery and then have it done in less than ten minutes.

Our wonderful pastor brought dinner over Friday evening and when Mr. & Mrs. Christopher came over to see how I was doing (and joined us for dinner, although I was propped up on the sofa), they surprised me with a casserole for Saturday's dinner.  I love my daughter-in-law.

I will see the retinal specialist again in two months to see if the surgery successfully stopped leakage from broken blood vessels.  The diabetes causes swelling around the retina which then causes the breakage of blood vessels.  It is this leakage into the eye that can cause blindness.  Even if successful this time, he will continue monitoring my retina.  Some people have to have numerous surgeries through the years.

If you are diabetic, make certain your eye doctor is monitoring your eyes!  Blindness can be slowed down for years and even prevented when caught early.   My initial "spot" was found by my eye doctor who sent me to the retinal specialist last year.

What happy news! Aren't we blessed to live in THIS time of history where such surgeries are possible?!?

I'm glad that dear ones are taking care of you. I know that those meals tasted extra special good. Wonderful news about your getting through so well and about being able to see clearly with one eye already. The other will soon follow suit, I'm sure.

Brenda, I'm so happy to hear that your surgery went well and that you're recovering nicely! I didn't manage to leave a comment, but I did remember to pray for you & your surgery, including the surgery team!

Take it easy now as you recover!

I hope you continue to recover well. Eyes are a precious thing. I have my check-ups regular being diabetic and there is an advertising campaign on tele at the moment here in OZ advising people to see their eye doctor on a regular basis.
Take care, snuggle up with a talking book and enjoy all those wonderful meals you don't have to cook. You are blessed to have those amazing people around you.

Such happy news...and...as a fellow reader I am especially empathetic to being able to read without impairment! I am terribly near-sighted and use my glasses for far away only (thank Heaven). I have been tempted, over the years, to have it corrected but then heard so many stories about those with corrected vision needing reading glasses I decided to keep things as they are. (Without correction I can see perfectly 3 inches in front of me...thus I literally have my nose in a book all the time! :)

Your family is so sweet...you are blessed Brenda.

Love,
Tracey

Glad you are doing well!! And to have such a nice daughter-in-law...wow, the kind that actually help their mother-in-law!! That is rare!!! Most these days seem to think we are there to always serve THEM...well, one does not mind helping...but tis wonderful to have some help when ill too!! You are blessed, Brenda!!

Glad to hear you're recoverinug well. I just wanted to add that my eye doctor actually found my diabetes. Or at least she saw the signs and she encouraged me to have my MD check it out.
