Tea time with Friendly Village

It has been a long time since I gave the subject of tea time the attention it deserves.  It is almost false advertising to keep it part of this blog's title.  :)

However... I had to take pictures of a recent solitaire tea time.  The small plate really was there for a purpose, to hold a slice of homemade chocolate chip pumpkin bread.  But it was so pretty, I took a picture without the bread!

So many people who also love Friendly Village said they use it through the winter, I started doing the same thing.  I usually just used it in the autumn and for Thanksgiving.  It would also be pretty for Christmas.

Can you see why it reminds me of my neighbor's barn?

I'm really enjoying Season 2 of Downton Abbey.   There were one or two scenes I could have done without in the first season but I love the way they brought everything together even though this season takes place two years later.

Each time I see the actual house, I can't help but think it looks like a smaller version of the castle shown on the brown transferware pattern of Old British Castles (which I also adore).

Sigh... I think I need therapy.

I gave up on Downton Abbey after first three episodes. I just couldn't warm to the daughters. I thought it was a great disappointment after Larkrise to Candleford which I just loved. Maybe I'll give it another try.

I just love Friendly Village. I have never seen it before, but will certainly be on the look out for it now as it reminds me of my grandparents farm here in Iowa.

I did not even attempt to watch Downton Abbey during the first season as I kept reading about certain questionable scenes. So I am trying the second season and do love it but I need the background and have it on reserve at the library.

I really enjoy your blog and if you think you need therapy...then I'm hopelessly lost!

Brenda, I love your tea posts! Those are such pretty dishes. I also am enjoying Downton Abbey. It keeps one wondering what will happen next! Have a wonderful day. Bess

Oh I adore both series that Anonymous mentions. Can't wait to be able to catch up with it again.

Beautiful, clear photos of your lovely dishes. Yes, I use them all through the winter and I have even used them for Easter dinner by pulling the spring and summer dinner plates with scenes of flowering bushes, etc. I'll have to do a post on them one day myself.

(I might have loved to see the pumpkin bread. ;> )

I love your dishes and if you need therapy so do I!

Lovely post. I am intentionally having a slower paced week, usually I cannot 'allow' myself to do this. But I think I need some thinking time and slowing down time. Yesterday I made myself a pot of tea, used a pretty 'new to me' tea cup, on a pretty tray. I was in my living room watching an old movie on the TV and working a jigsaw puzzle set up on my card table. Therapy for a hurried soul.

I have some Old Britain Castles in blue. It's my favorite pattern. The castle is Blarney Castle in 1792. I don't know if you've noticed that in the lower right it names the castle and date. :-)

I did not know there was a second season of Downtown Abbey - I watched bits and pieces of the first season, but did not get into it as much as Lark Rise to Candleford, I LOVE Lark Rise. And I LOVE Wives and Daughters and North and South - I will have to try Downtown Abbey again.

Your tea cups and plates are oh so lovely!
