A previous tea time... |
Yesterday we did have to drive in the rain to the VA Hospital for my husband's first checkup, which went so well we were in and out of the hospital within twenty minutes! Of course, it is at least a three hour round trip. :)
We listened to one of my favorite CDs on the trip, the Indelible Grace CD my daughter gave me as a gift two or three years ago. I love their music, they take old hymns and set them to a modern arrangement... somewhere between Celtic and blue grass although each song is quite unique.
The rain had been gentle on our short trip but was becoming heavier about ten miles from our house. All I can say is... a nap was absolutely necessary with the rain and the windshield wipers lulling me to sleep (after arriving home, of course). :)
Instead of a Sunday Afternoon Tea this week, there will be a post regarding 9/11 and I'm going to repost a few favorite recession posts. I plan to go through them and repost one or two a week. It was a decision I made after the continuous sticker shock at the grocery store (smaller containers... bigger prices).
I came across the above picture in my files recently. It was a lovely tea time and I'm trying to recall what muffin recipe that was, they look delicious. Hmmm... I baked them so I should remember.

Rain and tea always so together in my book.

Did you see that we have a part Maine Coon kitty? He is pretty nice.
I am glad the trip to and from the VA was good and that the appointment was so quick!
We have lots of flooding in areas around us but we are fine.
I bought milk this week at our local dairy (it is much cheaper there all the time)and it had gone up another 15 cents a gallon in a week! Sticker shock indeed!
Looking forward to reading your Sunday post....

You know that your readers ARE going to ask so keep thinking. ☺ A 9-11 post seems like an excellent idea for Sunday. We all need to remember and I know that you have some profound thoughts. You always do.
Wow...just 20 minutes at the VA center! That's almost unheard of. Glad that it went so well.
The sounds of rain on the windows and roof is one of my favorite sounds in the world! :-)
I've noticed that it's not just the sticker shock, but the declining quality as well. It is becoming more and more apparent that some companies are seeking to hold prices by not only cutting size but also the quality. That bothers me more than the shrinking sizes. I can look at the label and see if they have made it smaller. But when they are messing with the quality... You can't see that until you buy the package and open it up. I've sent complaints to a few companies to get refunds or coupons. It is bad enough to pay for things that are overpriced. But to not be able to use them? I draw the line there!
You are so right about "sticker shock" at the grocery store.
I don't use Velveeta very often, but we do use it for a cheese dip, we have when the kids are here.
It is just pennies under Six dollars! I think we will be using bean dip from now on!
Every time I shop, the prices of things I buy, regularly have increased. I am so glad I have several stores to choose from and I do plan meals around loss leaders. I also do more and more price matching at Wal-Mart.

I'm so glad to hear that your husband's follow-up went well! And hope you have a restful day with all the rain needed and no more. (I realize one of my patio tomatoes sort of drowned this summer.)
Looking forward to your Sunday post, and oh, praying that nothing comes of this newest threat.
The picture at the beginning of your post is lovely ! I love the sound of the rain on the roof...here in the South of France, it is sunny and hot ! (about 32°Centigrade) I'm glad for your husband.
Blessings from France
The photo of your muffins reminds me of some quick bread hot cross buns I made once, but they don't seem to have the indentations, unless they are filled with glaze. (I don't think the recipe I used was for the real deal.) Bess
We had the same experience for my husband. He had an appointment for xrays at the VA hospital four hours away. Took about 15 minutes for his appointment! I barely had time to shop ... if I'm going to ride for eight hours, I need some shopping time. Where we live in Lake Havasu, AZ, there is very limited shopping so when I get a chance to get back to some of my favorite discount stores, I'm happy.
The muffins do look wonderful.
And I, too, love the sound of rain.
Enjoy your weekend.
I like also the sound of rain. If I good understand you: rain is a blessing in your country/area??
I am new to blog land & just wanted you to know that i really enjoy your blog! Come over to my little corner of the world & visit :)
I also love the sound of rain! Nothing better than being home baking bread on a cosy, rainy morning. My husband says that it is obvious I have never had to get up at 5:00 am on a wet day to deliver papers (as he did).
