The garden meets the Scrapbook Journal

I wrote down what I remembered about the 2010 garden before starting the 2011 information.
Last year I wished I'd kept a detailed garden diary so this Spring I started a section in my Scrapbook Journal.

If I had a bigger garden, I'd create a journal just for it but this works great.

I don't know why I didn't think of this last year, it is so easy to write it all down.

The date in parenthesis is the harvest date according to instructions.

I had to make a page for raised bed #5 when hubby built it.

I have left a couple extra pages blank to write out what worked, what did not, when items were harvested, etc.

So far it is working nicely and is so simple to use... I love simple.

In case you have never seen other pages from my Scrapbook Journal... below are a few pages to give you an idea of how I use it...

I use it to write recipes... in this case, I made lists and wrote out recipes I used for our graduation open house.  Wow, that seems like only yesterday!

My main stock up list gets added to in the Journal.

I use my Journal to write favorite quotes and Bible verses, too.

There was nearly a year when I didn't write much at all but a couple months ago I dusted it off... all a part of my year to Create!

Of course, it all got started a few years ago when my precious friend, Jewels, showed her Scrapbook Journal and I was smitten.

A link to hers can be found... here.

I had a simple page drawing of flowers for last year for the first time. This year, I purchased a garden journal for .95 in the discount bin. It's great for knowing what plants are what. I had not thought that I could add planting dates, blossoming dates, and harvesting dates. Duh! I love your pretty pictures and I'm sure that your journal is very helpful. I have a household journal, a recipe journal, a quotes journal, and the little garden journal. Combining them into one large journal might mean that I could find it.

I do this too! I love to journal here but don't do it every day. I am going to add details about my garden in there as well.

I adore Jewels...it is lovely to find so many lovely kindreds everywhere!

A few of my Everything Books were stored during The Endless Move. I was just rereading one last week. It was from when I was pregnant with Dumpling. It was a lot of fun to read! Amazing how life has changed...

I really do like this idea. I did a scrapbooky journal once when I was inspired by Jewel's. I still keep a journal, but don't always add the pretty pictures. I should. You're inspiring me to do it again. Thank you, Brenda!

Dearest Brenda,

What a wonderful idea about keeping track of your garden in a beautiful journal.

So many times I go to get seeds and have forgotten the variety that I grew last year. I also have a hard time remembering the approx. harvest date...I tend to want to go out-of-town just when I should be staying home to can and freeze the bounty of my garden.

You seem to be in a very creative spirit these days and I am enjoying it so very much...you inspire me!

Yours so kindredly,
Shan

I should start a garden journal (right now it consists of scribbled notes). I like the idea of a homemakers scrapbook.

THis is a great idea! Pictures really help out when you are planning your garden for the next year. To remember what did well and where you planted it! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love this - what a great idea. My entry for June in Texas would be "everything shriveled up and died!"

This is such a good idea. I didn't keep one last year and I'm sorry I didn't because I couldn't remember which two heirloom tomatoes didn't do well (therefore I didn't buy any heirlooms this year)! I love how you added pretty pictures and it makes me smile that I recognize some of them as being in my own inspiration files.

I can see that you & I have at least a few things in common. I will be following your blog, and invite you to come visit mine if you like.

I also keep creative journals. You can see pictures of some of my pages on my blog.

I also love coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.

Thanks for sharing!!

I have been keeping only a few papers on the garden. A diagram of what is planted where and date of. List of things I want to do etc. I think a journal would be much better than papers I loose!!! :) Even notes like plant everything before June 30 cause it will be too hot to be out much would be helpful to note! I am going to start listing bloom times for flowers and bushes too. Also what was the variety of yellow tomato I loved and the other one that did not keep well? If I had written it down.... Yea, you have a good idea Brenda! Thank you Very Much! Sarah

Wonderful idea! I have dreams of a large garden next year. It will be a "learn as you go" project. (smile) I can see how helpful a journal would be for this and many of my other endeavors.
