Re-decorating tea time

I have lots of housework done although still a little more to do until I can call it finished until spring.  However, I thought I'd share some of the work I've been doing... especially the tea things.

I love the new look of the buffet (above).  It came about from a few days of "tweaking".  Where the glass oil lamp is now, I tried a couple different teapots but it wasn't until I put the lamp there that I went from "like" to "LOVE"... perfect!

I once read (three words I use a great deal) that one of the best things you can do in the dark of winter is to clean all your glass to create a sparkle from reflected light.  It really does make a difference!

The teacup on the left is the newest in my collection, one of those Goodwill "God things"... a pattern I've always wanted on display when I was there and had $3.99 to spend.  The teacup on the right was the very first in my collection, given to me as a gift from a friend in the mid-90's.

It still didn't look like I wanted until I added two favorite pictures... Stephanie dressed for Tulip Time when she was very young (we lived in Holland, Michigan) and Steph with Christopher at her wedding.

Above are pictures of the tweaking done to the corner china cabinet.   Sometimes if I need a cheer up, I open the door to the corner cabinet and just view the teacups as one would look at gorgeous artwork... and no, I do not plan on entering the Betty Ford clinic for dish addicts.  ;)

If you had to enter a clinic because of your love of dishes, you'd certainly not be alone. Ha! Yes, I, too, love the look of sparkling glass and the oil lamp looks wonderful right there. I have so got to get to straightening up my china cupboard...things get so disorganized so quickly. That must have something to do with the way I placed them.

I love your collection of teacups and china. I too love dishes. I collect pink depression glass and just love the hunt. Have a great day.

I forgot to say how sweet those pictures are of your children.

My grandmother has a similar love of pretty china teacups and saucers. I inherited some of her collection, and when I look at them, I think of her. She had very little money and most of her collection came in the way of gifts from her sisters, daughter, and friends. Those pretty items gave her so much pleasure.

We can all take pleasure from small things that are special and that bring beauty into our lives.

How very pretty! You have spring already! What a fine idea to redo for that dark time between Winter and Spring! I love it!

Everything is beautiful and soothing! I agree about "glass" bringing in reflected light and sparking up a space. I also use metals as an additional layer of spark.

You have such a beautiful collection of tea things. (I sometimes just stand and look at my tea things too.) My husband has been cleaning the basement today and found one of my tea pictures that I had forgotten about. It was quite exciting!

Brenda, I do the exact same thing: Gaze at the contents of my china cabinets as though they were fine art. If I don't stop and do that every once in awhile, I find that I'm taking all that beauty for granted! Your new arrangements look lovely! Bess

So beautiful Brenda! Fresh and lovely. I'm another dish addict, but restrain myself now....I also love figurines and have a lot of nice ones from my mother and grandmother, but my daughters do not "like china people", alas....But I do, and they make me happy in my home.

Your table looks so pretty with the lamp and teacups arranged on it. Incidently, some of your 'thrifted' china looks like it could be antique.

I have that very oil lamp! I love having them lit in the early morning or the evening.

I love all your tea things as well.

Love your dishes. I have the exact ones. They are the same as my grandmothers. BTW I am loving the Mitford books. Thanks Brenda I think we have the same taste for many things.

Hahahah...you are so funny Brenda! I think you'll find me at the same clinic once you get there! I love your holiday gifts. I do see how you could get lost in that picture...in fact they are both lovely!

Wishing you a blessed and happy new year my sweet friend.

Love and prayers, as always.
