As the dust is settling

Okay, I still have to do a good dusting and polishing of furniture but I feel a bit like Pig Pen, Charlie Brown's friend who is surrounded by dirt everywhere he walks.  For I am still deeply in cleaning and organizing mode and there is more to do.

I figure one may as well take advantage of these purging moods, especially when you live in a small house.  For what is left is loved.  I have even been tweaking the china cabinet and moving tea cups around and even... you will not believe this... sending a dozen or so teacups and saucers on their way to Goodwill.  Don't worry, I still have more than I'll probably ever use so I'm not losing my mind... at least not in that way... not so sure about any other.

While I practically cry when putting Christmas sparkle back on the garage shelves, I also always enjoy having the house back to normal.  I know, perhaps I do need to call someone who listens to people who are not all there... but I do think there is some of that feeling in all of us.  That pull between celebration and the beauty of everyday.  It's part of that frustration felt for thousands of years... so much we want to do while living in a finite body, space, and time.

I will probably be popping in and out these next few days until the first-week-in-January need for cleaning has run its' course.  Believe me, I will wake up one day soon and realize the house looks great but I'm still on the first chapter of The Lord of the Rings!  I'm also still behind in e-mails and letters that take stamps... hope to take care of that very soon.  :)

Lord of the Rings? Now that's a book I've never been able to read, but loved the movie series immensely. What's wrong with me?

Enjoy the nesting. It's lovely to be in the mood for it. I feel that way when I'm in the mood for sewing as if there's nothing in the world I'd rather be doing.

Don't forget that blogging is cheap therapy. ;>

Ohhhh, I'm with you on taking advantage of those purging moods! I'm in one of those myself and look forward to bringing new order and peace to the corners of my home.

I like how you put... for then what is left is loved.

Yes, I think I know what you mean about that 'pull'.... I call it being homesick for heaven.

I look forward to sharing the blogging journey with you in 2011.

It seems like i'm not the only one pleased when normal service is resumed after such a long period of holiday and festivities. I can't wait, but unfortunately I have to, until tomorrow, before I can start getting everything straight and back in its normal place so to speak. Tomorrow - it seems ages away at the moment, and I am going to have to work very hard to bite my tongue today and not say anything I will later regret!

This is not so much about your post but something I just read that I wanted to share with you.

"No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not
equally (and often more) worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond." ........C. S. Lewis

I believe this! I often read children's books and find much worth hearing in them.
