Now this is Bliss
I am really enjoying the new Victoria magazine. A subscription is my Christmas gift each year from hubby.
The Fall issue contains stories about the Lake District in England, where Stephanie and her husband visited last year. It is gorgeous. My favorite issues of the original Victoria were all about England.
I remember telling Stephanie that I knew the former magazine was doomed when the brand new editor said she was going to show readers there were countries out there other than England. They did write about other countries but the very soul of the old Victoria was British.
By the way, the publishers of the new Victoria also published a special magazine in July called Victoria Classics: Rooms of Bliss, which contains photos of beautiful rooms and such from the original magazine.
The last time I was in Border's (to peruse their copy of British Country Living because it has become too expensive for my budget), I saw they were still carrying Rooms of Bliss. I have also seen it at WalMart so it is readily available (at least in the U.S.).
It looks like they plan to publish more of them (my copy was a birthday gift) from the article I had read introducing the magazine. It came about when they found beautiful photographs in boxes of the old Victoria archives and thought they were too special not to share.
There is nothing like a lovely magazine and a cup of tea in a pretty cup to "take me away from it all". :)

I agree totally.... nothing like browsing a gorgeous magazine and sipping a fragrant cup of tea!
Have LOVED Victoria from the very first issue waaaay back when!
Indulged in a copy of the vintage Rooms of Bliss. Off to find the fall issue... it wasn't out the last time I checked.
Happy Reading...........
Yes, you are right about words and their ability to carry us away, and Victoria has the photos to enhance that experience.
I just subscribed to Victoria magazine again. I do love the beautiful photos!
Blessings,
Catherine
Oh I'll be looking for this one. Would you believe I just finally broke down and purchased the last one a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't stand being without it.
I enjoyed the article about Grace Coolidge as well. I have enjoyed studying about President Coolidge since visiting Plymouth Notch, Vermont where he grew up so it was interesting to read about his wife as well. A couple of statements in the article were a testament to her Christian faith, I think.
British Country Living is one of my very favorites -- I love looking at in the book store. My mom said she got an offer for Victoria that was amazingly cheap, but she deleted it! UGH!!! I think I'm going to buy the fall issue for my vacation.
I still have my very first issue of Victoria magazine. Such happy dreaming in those magazines.
I love Victoria magazine, too. Even gave my daughter Victoria as her middle name! Hee! :)
I have been enjoying the new issue too! Two of my favorite things - England and Autumn!
I am going to ask for the Rooms of Bliss for my birthday, too!
I have a lot of the older back issues but from about 2002 onward (whenever it was they started listing prices on items) I lost interest. Until then I'd felt I could some how manage to replicate/acquire items to give me the same setting but pricing really made me aware that indeed Victoria Living was far far out of my modest budget. I never felt the same about the magazine ever after, lol.
